Using para covers ...

Can a person use a para dust cover on a regular FAL? Was thinking of one of the new para GP rail dust covers on a regular FAL in anticipation of making a para conversion.

Para conversion would come later, but para mount may come sooner.

I'm not an expert but I'm thinking probably not. The para top cover has that return spring guide pin on the inside. That non-para bolt carrier doesn't have a hole for that to go in. The para cover needs a para carrier.
I'm not sure if you can put a para cover/carrier/spring combo in a regular FAL or not. I know there 's a cut in the para lower that has something do do with it.

I have seen DSA list cut and non-cut para covers and GP also lists their covers for cut and non-cut (I think).

So, it seems that one can put a para carrier in a regular FAL as long as one uses a non-cut type para cover.

What I don't know is if a para cover (non-cut) for a non-cut FAL will work with a regular carrier.

ON the other hand, can one use a non cut para cover that requires a cut type cover?

Well, I found my answer ... did a search ... doh.

The para cover has the spring guide mounted inside of it, so there would be interference with the standard carrier.

Oh well, guess have to get the para carrier and cover at the same time.

Edit:

It seems that one can not use the standard para cover unless one can remove the spring guide.

And in checking Grenadier Precision site, it appears that their dust cover is interchangeable via a removable spring assy.
