M11's and M10's.
I've seen a couple Sten MKII's for $3500. |

You won't find an M2 carbine or a Sten under $3K anymore, and if you do, you are just as lucky as a guy who finds an M16 for $7500. Hell, a $3500 sten tube gun is a very good deal in todays market.
C&R Sten, fuhgettaboutit. Your only options for Sub $3K transferable FA (barring a dumb luck find) given present days par market pricing is a Stemple or a MAC. Stemples are right on the edge of that (@ $2995 wholesale), but John Stemple still has some in stock. As soon as he runs out, they will double in price in one days time just like Vector UZI's did when Vector ran out and all the retards who think things last forever suddenly realized how stupid they are.

I have to echo what everyone else has said. About the only thing you'll be able to get in that price range is an M11 or Stemple. But, you better act fast. Prices are constantly rising.
You could take out a loan for around $6-7000. You would have a few more choices, and I seriously doubt you would lose any money, if you had to sell. A couple years ago I bought an AC556. I bought it at a reasonable price. About 6 months later I sold it for a $700 profit. That's a pretty good return on an investment, especially one I shot and enjoyed for 6 months. Definately better than watching an investment on paper!!

These days, if it legally goes 'ratatatatat' and you can buy it for under $3K, it's a bargain.
Prices are constantly climbing, and THESE are the 'golden days' of private MG ownership! 1gewehr

Prices have leveled, though.
An M16 costs as much today as it did 2 years ago. You can actually buy a M11/9 for a tad cheaper today than you could have a year ago. I do think that they will continue to go up in price indefinitely, but as things stand, I do believe there has been a cooling, albeit a temporary one. Such a stabilization was due in coming, given the explosive price growth that MG's saw from 94-04. I think the real question is, what will be the next catalyst that drives most MG prices into the realm of 'totally unreachable for the average guy?" $25K M16's $7K and $8K MACs... It will come one day, I think the real question is will it come in 5 years or 15 years. Of course, all of this is barring some legislative factor having an impact on things (a complete transfer freeze, a 'public' transfer freeze ala machine gun ownership in Canada where only existing MG owners can buy from each other and once they're dead the MG cannot be willed to an heir, a draconian increase in the transfer tax, etc...)
