I've finally finished the weapon of my desire, behold the glory of my first build:
The original style of the weapon, a FrankenFAL with a Century R1A1 receiver, a garish cocking knob, and scratched-up plastic furniture; all built upon a great (but non-matching) G1 kit with an excellent condition Belgian proof barrel. ![]() ![]() The parts all disassembled and ready for build ![]() ![]() The semi-final product is my pride and joy, thanks to the help of Robert (gamachinist). Receiver was switch to a Type 1 DSA, reparked handguards from adam762 (as well as a few more parts), furniture from Ironwood (refinished by me in Behr's Tung Oil), and carrying handle attached. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Now all I have left is to refinish it with Duracoat. I've already got it all set up and can't wait to post pictures of the finished rifle in the next couple of weeks. I couldn't have done this without the knowledge and resources that FALFiles.com has provided, thanks to all you guys! Ben Last edited by zplug123; August 19, 2005 at 00:01. |

Good job of building, and a nice looking rifle even as-is!
Let us know how she "shoots". Orion 762

Glad to help zplug,
To tell the truth,it looked good when he brought it in,since he had already swapped out everything but the receiver.

Upcoming shooting report
I haven't been able to shoot yet because of rainy weather, but tomorrow should provide me an opening for test-firing my build. I've got 80 rounds (two 30rd mags & one 20rd) mag of SA surplus and a 20rd mag of Match Grade Federal .308 for the testing, first going to try to sight the rifle to check for barrel timing and accuracy. I plan to sight in at 50 yards, then 100 yards, and finally blast away with everything for functions check (also installed a recoil buffer) Anyone have a better idea of how to check for signs of trouble or a better procedure for test-firing?

Well since Robert was the one who helped me barrel the DSA receiver, I gave the Century upper to him for his services.
