Question Scope recommendations?

I know this has been talked about before but my search of the archives didn't find exactly what I was looking for. I'm looking for a decent scope for my 30-06 Remington 742 to use for deer hunting. I don't really care if its variable power or not as long as I can get 4x out of it. I am willing to spend up to $250 for a decent scope but don't really know what is the best bang for the buck in this price range. Leupold varix1?

Leupold is a good product. My first choice when cost is my second concern.

For the rifle/application you mentioned you might get by with something cheaper, especially if you don't play rough with it.

I have a Nikon Monarch 2x7x32 on my FAL and I think it is in every way at least the equal of my various Leupold Vari-XIII's. Here is a link for it at $269,

I have a Nikon 3x9 x 40 mm on my .300 Weatherby Magnum. Lot's of recoil and it has held up well. I bought it for $200.00 a couple of years ago at a gun shop here in AZ. Leupold would be my choice too, if money were not a factor. Maybe someday.

I bought a Beautiful BUSHNELL 3200 series 10x40 mildot scope with target knobs for $158 + postage.
Nicely made in Japan & lifetime warranty.
I would check this entire series including the 4200 w/rain guard.
Nice scopes & priced right.
I did a search on the WWW & the best price was from D & R sports.
https://www.dnrsports.net
Clicking on the scope pic, reveals the price
