Springfield GI 45
Just picked one up today in OD green. This thing is as tight as a bankers ass!The finish is real even and the black controls and bushing/plug set it off nice. The only complaint is the crappy grips. They would have been fine if they left off the GI engraving. Now to test it out....

If you'd like to replace the grips, Simpson Ltd. sells USGI plastic ones from various manufacturers:

IMHO the Springfield 1911 pistols are totally underrated. They
are priced right too. I think you'll like it. These are made by Imbel IIRC. I asked to see one at a gunstore here in Houston and the salesman said that I wouldn't want it 'cause it's made in Brazil. I asked if he knew the name Imbel and of course he didn't, he thought I should have a Kimber that cost around $1,200. I bought a 1911A1 SS full size Spingfield Armory, it also has just about every add on and its got the V12 porting. This gun gun is the best pistol I have. Works every time even with reloads. No need to 2 hand this one the porting kills the recoil. I'd be real surprised if you don't like it. Hurry up and go shoot it and give us a range report. 2ba |

Mine's marked Imbel on the front underside of the frame.I can't remember if my brother's is marked the same way or not. It's surprising that people don't know about Imbel.I won't get out to shoot it until monday, but I'll post a review.

I have put over 2000 rds thru mine in the last 6 months. It eats everything I have put thru it and also use it in the CDP class at our local IDPA matches. I too think this gun is seriously under rated and it even "looks" right!

Got out and shot it this morning.I put about 50 rounds through it.It had 2 failures to go into battery, but in all fairness I was using wolf and actually expected more.Very accurate pistol even with the small sights and my shaky hands!

I love my Springfield 1911. It shoots tight groups, even right out of the box. I used mine to qualify for my CCW in fact. Granted the grips leave much to be desired, but I'd expected to change them out anyway. My pistol is the basic military one, parkerized finish, three dot sight etc. I wanted a basic 1911, and this is a great one- loose enough for out dragging around but tight enough to count where ya need it too.

I bought an SA GI model... just like the "real" ones.. small sight, big bang when you pull the trigger.... great deal on a real 1911, not one of the yuppie show pieces.
So far I have not had any problems with it, the only thing I feed it is Winchester White box from wally world. 230gr FMJ feeds everytime and will still make one hell of a mess out of a bad guys chest cavity if you have to use it to protect yourself. |

4570 (thats easier to write)
I would shoot the heck out of it. All 1911's need to get grooved in. I saw a Bill Wilson tape a couple years ago that said they weren't even broke in till 500 rds. The national average on used guns is around 9 or 10 rds. I find that buying used pistols very few were ever even broken in. Get some Wilsons lube or some Remoil for the slide. 2ba |

Yeah I'm not worried about a few hiccups.I know it will smooth out.I actually expected more problems,2 failures to go into battery is no big deal.I expected a few FTE's and FTF's because it was so tight.I'm reallly happy with it.

I have the Mil-Spec and like it a lot. It has a few more features than the GI.
