Nope, just bullets. Maybe a digital camera so you can show it off?

A good sling may be an asset to you and your new FAL. I think Rooster has some nice ones.

Good plugs or muffs (for ALL shooting!)

Broken case tool, and cleaning rod/knockout rod

minimal cleaning gear, synthetic oil and synthetic grease

Learn the "Pogo"! ;D

a good case, hard or soft is not required, but a nice option

.............and buy more ammo!

Have fun,
Paul

The windage is adjusted with a normal screwdriver.

Elevation changes require rotating the front sight, which uses a special tool. There are at least three different varieties of front sight which use different tools, so you'll need to know if your front end is metric, english, or Israeli.

Gas adjustment regulates the kick and extraction. You may or may not have to change it. Learn where the gas adjust knob is. You may or may not need a tool to move it. It should move freely, but some guns (old/dirty or refinished) may require "help".

Do a search on brass kisses, the point where the extracted brass hits (and marks) the receiver. This is eliminated by properly attaching a small piece of duct tape.

Have fun!

I've never had to use a broken case extractor tool. But, I have one. Some tools for teardown, adjustment and maintenance are a good investment. Here is a link to a basic set. This particular one is from DSA. Other vendors sell similar items.

DSA reciever on a STG58 kit by ARS. Built about 5 years ago for the former owner.
I would assume metric.

Excited, this is my first FAL.

You now need more FAL's of course.

You will need at least a Para Model, and a 50.00 normal length barrel model.

Of course then you can get into the short carbine barrel with full stock models, bipod models, Israeli, South African, Brit, Aussie, etc, etc.

After all thos are done...you can get into FNC's which are the .223 carbine from FN!

Welcome to the club!

We will require: Range report NLT Monday AM, with pics.

You will require: Professional psychiatric help before following weekend's next range trip.

Your solvency will require: Destruction of all credit cards before cleaning rifle this Sunday PM.

AMHIK

Welcome to the machine.

Question on adjusting the gas system. Does the gas adjust knob "lock" or do you just turn it? It sure is stiff and doesn't want to turn. Also, what exactly is the thing in front of the front sight?

I have down loaded a manual from subguns, but the pictures aren't too clear. Haven't read them too much yet, just scanned over them.

I have AK's and AR's, but my M1A and the FAL are both new to me.

It does not lock, its just hard to turn. They sell a tool for it, but its easy to improvise. You can just bring a rag and use it for grip. Plus when you are setting the gas the thing will start to get to hot to turn with your fingers.

Nice FAL!

That's the Pogo Plug. Remove it, remove gas piston and spring. Install Pogo gas piston and spring with foot pieces. Mount pogo-rifle, begin jumping and firing. Ask Gary Jeter for more details.

The thingy is the Gas Plug. I started my smarta$$ post before copying in a link for ya. If someone else doesn't beat me to it, I will post up a link for ya next .

Sticky in the Gunsmithing Forum

Different variants have various gas plugs.

My rifle is easily adjustable by hand, always has been but then I clean the gas system after shooting and coat the threads with CLP. I helped a shooter at my last match who had the same problem, had to use my multitool to adjust it. I wear a leather shooting glove if it gets too hot but even after 400 rounds at a single outing once it is set it hasn’t yet needed to be adjusted as long as I shoot the same ammo. Is this a build up issue it seems to me that an adjustable gas system that’s almost impossible to adjust is about worthless.
