Best 4 power scope for the M4 in the desert

What would be the best 4 power scope & mount for the new M4 rifle, to replace the aimpoint. For long range desert conditions, what would be the best way to go within a reasonable price. Thanks for any help.

Dean, I would seriously consider a LaRue quick detach mount. I assume this rifle will have back up iron sights as well. It should if it doesn't. Go to the industry section at AR15.com and look at G&R Tactical. He has pics of the mounts.

As for a scope, if this is a life and death type situation, and it sounds like it is, don't skimp. Leupold fixed power would be a good scope and still not too costly.

Look at the QD scope mount in this thread.

Leupold with Warne QD rings.

Butler creek flippy lens covers.

Small broad camel-hair brush to dust the lens.

Look at the IOR Valdada. Leupold glass is probably about the same, but the Valdada is built from the ground up as a tactical scope and has the added benefit of having reticles calibrated for the rifle and round. If $$ were no object I'd recommend the Nightforce, but they are more than double the price of Valdada.

Dean

if you head to the mosul area i got a BUIS for ya and anything else i can get away with giving ya.

also long shots are not really long shots here, we use our M68 and eotechs out to 400m at times. i use an ACOG some times if i am going to be static for long periods and my M14 doesnt fit the bill. but most of the time, we use the reflex sights for jsut about everything.

as stated before QD rings would be rule if you wanted to flip optics back and forth. but how rapid the attacks are it would suck to have a 4x scope on top when a bad guy is 15' away shooting at ya.

here in Tal afar, my closest engagement was 10' my farthest was just shy of 1240m with my M21. so depending on your job and your chances of being in contact on a daily basis i would let that determine the needs of your optics.

but to finally answer your question most guys use the Leupold Mk4 MR/T's, Simmons 44mag w/ TT and those super sniper scopes (adj).

Not me, my son in the southern part. But thanks for the offer. Trying to get a care package together.

Funny you should ask this now. I have been doing A LOT of research on this for the past month or so. My company is getting ready to mobilize for OIF and I am waiting to see what long arm they are going to issue us.
I am leaning towards an ACOG TA31RCO, it is the optic chosen by the USMC. Bullet proof and with practice can be used CQB because of the BAC concept. That will be my choice with a flat-top receiver.

If I have to use a carry handle M16 I will be leaning towards the Mini 2x ACOG to mount on the handle. If ACOG prices are too spendy, then check out the IOR Valdada 3x, has a type of doughnut for CQB, is illuminated, bullet drop comp, and build like a brick shit house. You can get an IOR for less than $600 that would be about $300 less than an ACOG. If you are in IRAQ now, I bet many companies would cut you a good price, if they ship to an AFPO address. Here is the IOR.

I guess the bottom line is what you can spend. On my last deployment, I know I did not spend that much, nothing to really buy at a FOB. My feelings are not to skimp on stuff that can/might have to save my life one day. Same reason I bought a Microtech Knife.
Good Luck, and keep your head down.

It would have to be the Acog TA 31 or TA 31F in 4x or TA 11 Series in 3.5x....and ARMS or LaRue would be a fine choice for the mounts. Everyone is on the LaRue Band Wagon right now, but they do make good products.
