If I cut my gas tube........

Do I have to permantly attach the front? Or did they just fo that on the STg's for good measure? How short can I safely cut it?

BTW I want to cut it to save the weight.

No, you do not have to permatach the gas tube. I have an F A L with a pinned short gas tube and it runs just fine.

If you look inside of the gas tube you will see that there are two inside diameters. Cut off all of the larger ID that you desire, but leave all of the smaller ID.
