Question Vertical stringing...

I did a search on vert stringing, saw the treads about tightening the bolt /BC lockup. Makes sense but I'll try that as last resort another time. My last session at my range produce two distinct groups on the same target. The first was a nice 2" group into a ragged hole (about 10 rds). The second group was about 5-6" high, still a respectable 3" group. I was packing up and noticed that the Imbel flash hider was loosey-goosey on the muzzle. Will this cause vert strings? Any suggestions on the best, non-permanent way to attach the F.H. firmly? Who do you recommend? Thanks for any suggestions.

Your FH is the problem most likely.

Screw off the FH and apply loc-tite to the threads and screw it back on and torque it down real tight and you should not have any problems. It probably was never tightened real good after the gun was built.

Thanks dj31. I have some experience in machine & welding. I'm not familiar with a Loctite product that will withstand the heat that a muzzle thing has to endure. I haven't measured the temp of a FH after firing a full mag, but I bet its more than 300. Please educate me on a high temp Loctite. Thanks again

272 (Red)Threadlocker High Temp./High Strength

Withstands temperatures to 450°F. Provides a fast cure on most surfaces including "as received" fasteners. Recommended for bolts up to 1 1/2" (36 mm) in diameter. Heat and hand tools are required for disassembly.

246 Threadlocker High Temp./Medium Strength
266 Threadlocker High Temp./High Strength
272 Threadlocker High Temp./High Strength
294 Threadlocker High Temp./Wicking Grade

Imbel just torqued their FH's on and they do not come off! I use a drop of 272 Red on mine and torque the heck out of them and I have never had one come loose.

Does the temp get abpove 450 degrees? Good question...I have never measured. If it does then the torque is enough to hold the FH on anyway.

If it does not hand time correctly you may want a timing washer (DSA sells) or try a different FH. The washers come in diff thicknesses, but I think you just get what they send. You want it to hand time at about 10:00 - 10:30, similar to hand timing a receiver, but a little more off TDC.

If it hand times correctly, I use Blue Loc-Tite (so I can get it back off without heat). If it's a bit too easy to torque on, I use Red or Loc-Tite #620 Retaining Compound, which is even stronger.
