Steyr proof mark
Would someone describe or picture the Steyr proof mark for an stg-58 barrel - got one with what looks like an oval with a crown on top and some lettering inside.

oval shape with a crown on one end and the letters L.G. inside is the F.N. proof mark found on the barrel under the handguards.I believe around 15-20,000 early STG-58 (1958) were done by F.N. under contract.my first STG-58 kit build is marked like that.Steyr proof is a triple circle with (steyr) in it i believe.

yes it is solvability(100% FN proof) from the masters in Beligum.is the barrel serial numbered to match the rest of the kit most usually were unless its a replacement barrel.

Yes, and thank you Bill - that is an all matching kit from FAC. I am helping a young fellow build his first FAL - looks like he is off to a good start.

congrats ,sounds like a nice one.the STG-58 kit i did about 4 years ago was like new condition and is my favorite one, while my imbel kits are good shooters they never came close to matching the F.N. STG-58.
good buy,my hat is off to you.

One of my StG58 kits has a proof like the FN: "Kal 7.62 x 51 m/m", but no E/LG oval FN proof and no Steyr proof. It has a couple of tiny proof marks that I can't see well and what I presume is the year date (61). What's up with this one?

The bulleye Steyr mark was not used until later in Stg58 production.

Thanks for clearing that up. It should be Steyr, as the serial number matches the rest of the StG kit, but I was wondering whether maybe the early barrels came from FN. One of the tiny proofs is the NP/V mark mentioned in the other thread.
