How many rounds to break in new FAL?

I haven't gotten out with my FAL as much as I would have liked to. The main reason is that the only place that I had access to has been closed due to other people that did not have permission shooting the place up.

Anyway my question is that I have a DSA SA58 with the med c. barrel.
It seems to like .308 much better than surplus which it can jam up on a little.

How many rounds does it usually take to break this rifle in? I probably have less than 200 rounds through it.

Also I think that my gas port maybe a little fouled as I have had to crank it down to about 2 to get it to cycle reliably. I don't have a front sight tool to get to it to see. was thinking that a pair of retaining ring pliers might be strong enough, but have not tried this yet.

We now have a forrestry range that has opened up, so I plan to get her out and try to get her running a bit smoother.

Thanks.

there is no such thing as "breaking in" a rifle.

A quality product should work as designed on the first round. If it doesn't, its called "defective" not "breaking in period".

While I have had no real trouble with DSA barrels, the chambering is fairly tight. This may be nice if all you are shooting is premium ammo, but I find increasing the throat slightly by chasing with a finishing reamer will make for smoother extraction and easier chambering with surplus ammo.

My DSA STG58 needed a little breaking in. The bolt would drag just a little bit, but after about 300 rounds or so, its smooth as silk.

The machine work on my latest DSA receiver was not nearly as nice as one bought two years ago. There were several burrs, rough machine marks, and peened over areas from aggressive cutting. Some of these defects might take "breaking in" as Mark says.
