I am looking at buying a Sig P226...I have seen Southern Ohio Gun has them at a reasonable price (under $400)..It doesn't say used but for that price it has to be...
1, anyone have any experience of Sig P226? Good, bad?? 2, Has anyone actually ordered one of these from SOG? Are they worth it? Everything I have read says they are great pistols and I can't help but feel even if the SOG ones aren't perfect, its a good platform to work on.. Thanks in advance Cheers Poccur

My opinions are just that...opinions.
I've owned a 226 and a 229, both in 9mm. I purchased both of them from local individuals. Based upon those two pistols, I would say that Sigs are excellent pistols. I had ZERO malfunctions with either of them. I simply do not care for the DA/SA trigger. You can purchase Sigs in DA only, but I'm not a fan of that either. I find them to be well-made, dependable, and worthy of consideration for a defensive handgun. SOG's offer sounds reasonable, but I would look around for a local purchase that you can look at/handle prior to purchase. You might try looking at a Gun Show. By the time you pay shipping and a transfer, you will be pushing the $450-$475 window for SOG's offering. I'm nearing my mid-forties and I've tried just about every brand and style of handgun. I used to hate Glocks. I reasoned that a cheap piece of plastic would never be dependable. Then I took one on trade and gave it a try. I now own several and keep going back to them time-after-time.

I bought my P226 in 1988, stamped Made in West Germany. Don’t know if the stamp means anything, but I have used and abused this firearm without a single malfunction.
Great firearm in my option and without a doubt, trust it to function properly if needed in a stressful situation. |

Sigs are excellent pistols...
Deal with SOG at your own risk

I have always had nothing but praise for the 3 Sig pistols I have owned, still have 2 and the 3rd was traded to a close friend. The SEALS have used and abused the 226 for years, no major complaints to date, or else it would be all over the gun community. As for SOG, I had a very pleasant experience with them when I purchased my Argy Hi-Power. Just my $.02, YMMV

I bought a new 226 in 1984 for $349.00 shipping included. I think there were imported in 1983 as Browning DA 9MM. I carried the pistol up to 2000 when our department made a General Order that everybody would carry Glocks. Had ZERO Problems with the pistol and always scored in high nineties at qualifications. JT

Got my first P-226 new. I liked it so much that I got another that was a police trade-in from CDNN. I don't have large hands and the 226 fits it well for a hi-cap 9mm. Very well made and accurate. The Sigs are top of the line handguns that you really can't go wrong with.

I have several Sigs, and they are the best semi-autos made, in my opinion. But, like someone else here said, its only an opinion. I don't think you would be disapointed in a 226. I have never dealt with SOG.

I currently own several model sigs, including my first, a P226 9mm. It was a Browning import that was amazingly accurate right out of the box. I carried it as my duty arm for a number of years. The only caution is that the model P226 serial numbered below 140xxx(?) were subject to frame cracking. The polymer frame was re-engineered around the 140xxx number.
That is not to say don't buy below 140xxx, just examine the rails a little more closely. My P226 is in the 125xxx, 1982/3 time, range and has never given me any problems and is just as accurate today as the day I bought it. I have done nothing to the pistol except keep it clean and oiled as per factory recommendations. Considering the price of new Sigs, used is a great way to go and still have a quality firearm. BamaFal

The Sig P226 outperformed the Beretta M92 in the military trials. We went with the Beretta because it was $12 cheaper. I
my German Sigs.

I have the Sig P226 and P228. I've had the 226 for about 13 years or so and not a single problem with it. I must also say it's the most accurate 9mm I own. I have over 11,000 (11K) rounds thru it and can't say enough about. I own all kinds of 9mm handguns and I must admit the Sigs are my favorite.
GO FOR IT!!!

Sig 226's don't have a polymer frame. It's an alloy frame, right? My Sig 226 is in .40 S&W and .357 SIG with 2 factory barrels and has been 100% reliable and accurate. I can't recommend it enough.

Must chime in with an obligatory "me too" in recommending the Sig.

Nothing like suffering from Ole Timers disease, and owning too many Sigs....
Yes, my original P226 has an alloy frame, NOT polymer! The original P226 frame was re-engineered around the 140xxx number because of rails cracking. I have not had that problem. Not certain as to how wide spread the problem was, but that was over 20 years ago. I just recently added another sig to the collection and I am drooling over a P226 stainless in 40S&W. Like a similar situation with black rifles, I am also addicted to Sigs. BamaFal

I have tried several sigs - find the 226 good for holster carry and house gun but for concealed carry consider 225 (single stack 9mm), I'd take either before the 228.
But no malfunctions of the sig series in my hands, or my wife's.
