Izzy CH mod on carrier

Planning to modify a standard carrier for use with an Izzy charging handle. Will this mod cause any heat treat issues with the carrier? How many of you have done this your self. It doesn't seem like a problem but wanted to throw it out there to those who've been there. Thanks

I used a flat file and took about a quarter inch out of the left rail only.
Some thousand rounds later and no problems.

File slowly and there won't be and heat problems.

If you can remove the metal with a file, then the metal ain't that hard. I used a surface grinder to do this, and had no issues.

No problems with doing the mod. If you'll do a search for "forward assist dimensions" or somehting there are a number of posts with pics that show the measurements of exactly where to do it. A very simple WECSOG mod.

Yeah, it does sound like a simple enough mod. I've tried many search attempts and come up empty handed.

Try searching for " israeli carrier ". I just gave it a try and came up with several threads with pics and dimensions for the cut.

Strange . . . I did the same exact search for giggles and still came up with nothing. Not one hit. Other searches have produced what I was looking for but this one gives me nothing.

I think the actual search term I used was "forward assist carrier" or something like that.

I'm gonna try one too. Which charging handle are you using? The original or the Tapco U.S. made clone?

I've used the Tapco handle with great success. Some people don't like that it is blued but I'm not real big on appearance so it doesn't matter much to me. Actually I kind of like the blueing. It's a quality part and my inch carrier did not need to be modified for it to work which was also a nice plus. Metric carriers however do need the filing done.

Did the mod yesterday in an hour or less with hand files only. Thought it would have taken a lot longer doing it without a dremmel but it went fine and was much more controlled by hand. Thanks all for the input. It was a simple mod but I like to reasearch projects to death and try to stay away from screwing things up. Anyway thanks again for all the info and pics they were very helpful. You guys here at the Files never fail to amaze me!!
