Cool A room full of ammo

Just finishing night shift. So....

My fantasy is to have a 10 metre by 10 metre room at 3 metres high full of ammo tins. Given that the ammo tins I want in the room hold 200 7.62 rounds, the room would hold 33,792 tins which would contain in total 6,758,400 rounds of ammunition. Being Australian ammo, it would cost me roughly A$2,365,440 for the ammo alone.

It would take me 10 years to shoot through it all at a rate of 56,320 rounds per month, which would mean I would have to replace the rifle about once amonth which would cost me around A$218,160 for the ten year period, keeping in mind that I would be shooting and wouldn't have time to build rifles, so I'd be buying them from DSA.

To summarise, I'd require A$2,583,600 (US$1,989,372) to fulfill my fantasy. I think that's doable.

I may require assistance.

And I'd have to move.

Actually I just realised that there is no way I could save all that ammo and not shoot it so I'd have to double that figure so I could shoot half of it while saving the other half!

Right, so now I need a new job and a work visa and then a green card and a place to stay........need some help here fellas. Fellas?

edited for spelling.

is that going to be your "bugout" ammo?
Are you going to carry it all?

With that much ammo you just build yourself a redoubt and shoot it out. Unless they have aircraft and such.

I am just wondering, is your 7.62 calibre ammo the same as our 7.62 caliber ammo. I know that ours is the same as .308 Win. If so, I think we can help you out with the green card. And forget the Visa, get a MasterCard, they have lower rates

Ahhhhhhhhhh..........Milhol.......you know if you actually shot off that amount of ammunition....and concentrated real hard (it will probably give you a headache) then you one day MAY be as good a shot as me..... Then again....turning a sow's ear into a silk purse does present difficulties. ...

Got your message the other night......I was in the middle of a Sri Lankan (yeah I know) meal when you called.....then needed to take care of my manly duties at home.

Andy; What? Put fuel in the car? Clean the bathroom? Put the toilet seat back down? I want to improve my shooting not go back down.
Tac40; Yes ours is better.. I mean the same calibre as yours. I meant a work visa. It was too early in the morning for clear thinking.
Masman; Actually I was thinking of doing the same with .45. i like the idea of buying some, storing half and shooting half.
Idsubgun; I'm sure it wouldn't take too long to find a cute chick willing to tag along.
Cava3r4; And yes I was not thinking of bugging out, all the ammo will be at the last stand.

I'm going to refine the dream somewhat;

One 10x10x3 room full of 7.62x51, one 10x10x3 room full of .45 ACP (how many rounds fill one of those tins?), one 10x10x3 room full of guns to shoot it all and one 10x10x3 room full of US$100 bills, which works out to be US$26,480,200,000 odd, then I'll be happy (after I shoot and spend it all).
Prolly need some help getting it all together and then blowing it all away. Might have to invite (sigh) Andy. Open invite to all FAL Filites.

You know.....I've actually seen a room like that. Only it was quite a bit bigger than 10x10. My first visit to Dan's. My son and I walked into Dan's warehouse and OMG stacks and stacks of 7.62x51. South African, Port and Radway. Tons and tons. Hundreds and hundreds of thousands of rounds; maybe millions of rounds. I was in absolute heaven. I was drooling. I stared in total disbelief. Man more 308 than any 20 guys could ever hope to fire in 5 lifetimes. That day there was all that 308, tons of hot Hirt 9mm, 50 bmg and other stuff, more than I can remember. I had a vision that day of what Heaven must be like. We loaded my paltry 5k of Radway into the back of my car and as we drove away, I swore I'd be back.

If you live in one place for a long time, you tend to build up more...ahem..."stuff" than you might expect.

Heaven help you if you have all that stuff, and ever have to move it.

Last time I moved, I decided to limit myself to 100 cans.
(I had to cheat a little bit on the shotgun shells - damn those things are bulky! I snuck the shotgun shells into various cardboard boxes for the movers.)

Ready to go out the door.

gary.jeter.

I am contemplating a change of residence in the near future. One of the big factors, that really has got me thinking twice, is the thought of hauling all that friggin ammo. When I moved to this place in 98, I might have had 3 cases of rifle ammo and a couple 1000 rds of 9mm. My stash has grown a bit since......

On the bright side, you find all those assorted mags, holsters, etc. that you forgot all about years ago.....

Oh yeah, and if I do go, all those old boxes of oddball shotgun shells, the ones in the rumpled paper grocery bag in the back of the closet (those that aren't buckshot or slugs) are staying....

I have a dear and close personal friend that is a gun writer.

The man also has limited personal time.

He literally unloads ammo on me and a few in our circles.

Combine this aspect with the need to have enough Portugese ammo for my Grandchildren to enjoy the FAL and M1A , and there is definately a space problem.

I shoot almost daily.
I have a 300m range literally in the back yard.

I think I have found my "Comfort zone".

My legacy will be that the Grandkids will never want as to ammo.

Life is good.
338GT

P.S.
At a certain point the ammo cans will need to be painted a better color.
O.D. green will clash with the curtains... I just know it!

Nah, be easier to just replace the curtains.

Could make up a nice set of OD curtains out of an old army mess tent.

That dream could turn into a nightmare if they deliver Indian ammo instead of Aussie.
