Replacing grip stud

Yes I did a search Mark made a reference to an old post but I could not find it. I have an Imbel that has been sitting in the closet. Just tried to get the grip off but threads were crossthreaded. Anyway I think I need to replace the stud. How can I do this? How much trouble is it? Has anyone tried to run a tap down on the threads to see if they would clean up?

Try the tap, ¼-28 IIRC.
I don't think the stud is replacable.

Worst case scenario if that stud has to come off, you could use a ground down T-nut as a replacement stud.

I bought a few Inch lowers that came with ground off studs. As an alternative to welding on a piece of tubing as a replacement stud, I took a T-nut (3/4 inch size IIRC) and ground off the barbs that would normally seat into the wood. T-nuts are used in wood working BTW. What you end up with is the threaded tube part with a small washer area remaining. Drop it into the hole in the lower with the tube portion extending out the bottom and you're good to go.

On an inch lower with the stud gone, I used a bolt and a plain washer and a lock washer. Works for me.
