G-1 on Coonan timing question.

Got me a refinnished DSA G-1 kit and Iam the process of timimg up the barrel to the Coonan reciever. Iam using a Court timing tool. The barrel timed up easy! My worry is too easy???? I did not have to wrench on it as I thought I would have. But I did use a cheater bar just a little. i went past 12 and then backed it up a little. Does anybody see any problem with this? Is this normal? thanks

I have build five G1s on coonan receivers. Three of them hand timed at 11:00 and two hand timed at 11:30. The three at 11 required a sufficient amount of torque to bring to 12:00, but I used 0.002" shims on the other two. I also used locktite on them, as opposed to never-seize like I usually do.

They all shoot fine.

You didn't need to use the receiver wrench? I'd say that's too loose. I'd be looking for a shim.

I've used Gunplumbers suggestion of carefully peening around the barrel shoulder with success, doesn't even mar the barrel . This one sounds too loose for that, though. Worth a try, just don't overdo it.

YES I used the receiver wrench and the cheater bar I am just saying that I thought it went to 12 very easy. And that i did not have to apply serious torque.I used nothing on the threads either . REDO? Come to think of it I wish I would of used some lock tight. I guess it's not to late. Thanks

After you shoot it and are happy with the timing make a witness mark on the barrel and receiver.

Then remove the barrel and degreese it and the receiver.
Apply Locktite (I like RED but you can use blue) and install the barrel and line up the witness marks.

And your done.
