last great Arab army?
I have been watching the original version of "Lawrence of Arabia" - splendid movie and makes me wonder if the last great arab army was actually led by an Englishman?

Did you ever try to read T. E. Lawrence's book? Don't remember the name and don't have it anymore. A difficult read.

Here's an online version of T.E. Lawrence's Seven Pillars of Wisdom:
http://etext.library.adelaide.edu.au/l/l42s/ "All men dream: but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes, to make it possible. This I did." Last edited by gman552; September 25, 2004 at 12:48. |

If I had to guess I would say the one led by Saladin that captured most of the mid-east and Turkey for the moslem world way back in the middle ages.
Since they got their collective butts kicked by the Isreali's 4 or 5 times in the last 60 years.

Cut ALL tax rates personal and business to 11%, abolish all unconstitutional federal agencies. It'll hurt but it would help us as a country. |

Colonial England had a history sending Military Emersaries to the middle east. Before TE Lawrence a General Chas. "Chinese" Gordon was sent to the 1880's Sudan to settle a Madhi's hash and lost his head in Kharotum.

That's it, Gman. After about 100 pages I was worn out.

T.E. Lawrence also wrote Revolt in the Desert. It is also a good read. A special note about The Seven Pillars of Wisdom is that he hand wrote the manuscript. The script was the only one in existence and was stolen from Lawrence before it was published. He had to completely rewrite the manuscript from memory, keep that in mind while you read it!
