Alumahyde II problems

I bought a can of dark gray park and matte black Alumahyde II back in December 2003 and finally got around to using the dark gray about 2 months ago. First off it wasn't dark gray at all(at least not what parking I am used to,) but closer to the shade of a Steyr Scout stock. Looked neat so I didn't sweat it until a couple of weeks ago I got a new carry handle that had the original black paint on it so I decided to spray the matte black on. Got out the brake cleaner to get any oil off the surface of the gray Alumahyde parts and the Alumahyde immediately bubbled up and peeled off(The matte black stuff will come off also after being swiped with a swab soaked in brake cleaner.) I had applied this to a degreased and warmed parkerized surface and shook the can well(with both colors) and I have used Alumahyde on a rifle and stocks(sandblasted stainless and plastic) I used to own and then I am 99% sure I used brake cleaner to clean out the insides occasionally without this happening(and Brownells says it will stand up to trichlorethane) so does anyone have any idea what has happened? The other thing is that the new cans of paint are truly matte finish while the old stuff had a bit of shine so maybe something is missing in the batch I got?

Thanks for any solutions, ideas, or opinions
Jason

In my experience Alumahyde will always soften (at least) with brake cleaner or laquer thinner - it is tougher if you bake it than if you just let it dry - if you just air dry it gets harder for months.

This has been "hardening" for over a month I can understand softening up when a solvent hits it, but the brake cleaner had the same effect as spraying brake cleaner on cheap spray enamel(in fact some enamels such as Krylon have held up better than the Alumahyde did) so this has me confused?
