Thumbs up SEARS

Let's all shop at Sears!!!!!!

I assume you have all seen the reports about how Sears is treating its
reservist employees who are called up? By law, they are required to
hold their jobs open and available, but nothing more. Usually, people
take a big pay cut and lose benefits as a result of being called
up...Sears is voluntarily paying the difference in salaries and
maintaining all benefits, including medical insurance and bonus
programs, for all called up reservist employees for up to two years. I
submit that Sears is an exemplary corporate citizen and should be
recognized for its contribution.

Suggest we all shop at Sears, and be sure to find a manager to tell
them why we are there so the company gets the positive
reinforcement it well deserves.

BEING A DOUBTING Thomas, I sent off a question to Sears.. Here is their reply.
....................
Dear Customer,

Thank you for taking the time to let us know of your support for our actions regarding our associates who have been called into active duty.

As you may have read, Sears has extended its program of military pay differential to 36 months. This includes allowing Sears reservists who are full-time employees to continue participating in the company's life insurance, medical and dental programs, if they choose. The company will also hold a comparable position for these individuals for up to five years.

Sears has a heritage of commitment to families and home. This is a difficult time for military families, and we are proud to be able to take these actions to demonstrate support for our many co-workers who are serving our Nation.

Again, thank you for your correspondence. We appreciate your interest in our efforts, and hope you will continue to make Sears your choice for quality and value. Sears, Good Life. Great Price.

Sincerely,
The Employees of Sears, Roebuck and Co.

God bless them. I always remembered my familly buying things at SEARS but I always thought it was because of the Sears credit card. Unfortunately when I grew up, with the WAL-MART's and K MART's, I didn't buy much at SEARS until the last couple of years. All of it were good products at a good price. This information about how they are treating their called up employees is just one more good reason to buy from SEARS.

That's class, pure and simple, and I'd hope that people keep this in mind when making the difficult decision on where to spend their hard-earned dollars. Yes, even if it means paying a few percent more than the place down the street.

Good for them, in this day and age it is getting more and more difficuly to find companies who know and operate on the "golden crap" principle

If you treat your people like GOLD, you get golden results

If you treat your people like CRAP, you get crap results

Sears for my money anyways treats their people like the gold they are

It would be nice if all emplyers cared that much.

Next major purchase, Sears, here I come!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to say I'm somewhat shocked. I used to work for sears and over the past few years they have cut pay, commissions, benefits, paid holidays and vacation time considerably.

I was wondering how many employees were actually full-time. Most of the folks I know at the two Sears near here complain about being part-time with fewer and fewer hours.

Doesn't really matter IMHO. That they are willing to do ANYTHING at all to help our Service People and their families above and beyond the bare minimum is impressive to say the least.

It's nice to see a corp. willing to go the distance in a time when some full time millitary families are collecting food stamps and veterans are homless.

There has ALWAYS been Craftsman tools in my family. My grandfather had em ( and he owned two hardware stores in the mowhawk valley) my father had em and I got two six foot roll aways full. I grew up in toughskins and geranimals
Sears is part of America. You could get ANYTHING from their catalog (there are three S&R houses in the town I live in...came in on the rail). This is just one more reason to patronize a good business with good products and good HR policy.

(The number of full time employees is another matter but one indemic to the retail sector as a whole and one that NEEDS to be addressed YESTERDAY .)

The only full time people at the store I worked at were managment and 1 salesperson per department. Most everyone else was part time. Hours varried greatly and you never knew if you were going to get 5 or 35 next week.

Yea, welcome to the rest of the world. Thank the people that feel that capitalism is more about paying 10% less for a lawn chair than it is about making ethical decisions on where to spend one's money.

My biggest problem with Sears is the number of tools nowadays that are no longer Made in the USA, and the number of tools nowadays that are cheap throwaways (regardless of country of origin). My Craftsman tools are a joke compared to my dad's 30-year-old stuff. Lifetime warranties don't mean much when your knuckles go into the firewall at 10PM on a Sunday night after a socket cracks.

Cool, good to hear, though as pointed out above, except for HQ personnel in Chicago, there's damned few full timers in the local stores. I already spend a lot at Sears.

No, but I do remember when you could get an entire VW bug engine, or any part in it, plus a dune buggy and tranny to drop that engine into.

I also remember being a young kid, and lusting after 2 sections of their catalog: lingerie/bras and pool tables.

glad to hear they care for their employees because they don't give a shit about customers.

here's my story:

went to sears and bought a new range for the kitchen. it wasn't in stock, but it would be in by the 2nd. called on the 2nd to see if it was in. i'm at the stage in remodling where i'll need it soon. they said it wouldn't be in until the 9th. i said, shouldn't someone have called me about that? they bumbled around but said there was nothing they could do. i said, "yes there is, you can go in the back and upgrade me with whatever white Kenmore they DID have in stock." she said she'd check and call me back. she called 10 minutes later and said they had none in stock, but would credit me 10%. i told her that the $40 credit wouldn't pay for a weeks worth of eating out and screwing up my 4th holiday. i told her to keep it on order, but i would be shopping the next day and if i found one, i'd be in to cancel it.

went to Lowes this morning to get stuff for my project. while there i found a comprable Whirlpool for about $28 more. I told the guy at Lowes my Sears story and told him if he had one in back, i'd take it with me that munite. he came back with the range. He asked what sears was charging me for the range. I told him $369 after discount. He price adjusted me the range to $369 AND there's a $40 mail in rebate. WOO HOO!!

now back to Sears. i go in tonight to cancel my order and ask to speak with a manager to let her know why she was going to lose a lifetime customer. i calmy explained the situation and invited her to look up my phone number in the system. I have spent over $3K there in the last year on appliances and tools. i asked her if the $40 they were willing to lose was worth the $3K in purchases. I also told her that i was looking ot buy a refridgerator (the sales lady backed up my story). I asked her is another $1K purchase was going to be lost over this. she asked what they could do to make it right. i told her if they gave me a screaming deal on a fridge, i'd forgive and forget. I told her that 10% wasn't going to cut it (i could get that by opening up a credit card). she called her boss and he offered me $40 off a fridge.

i told her thanks for teaching me a lesson on Sears customer service and don't worry about me coming back.

i'm very disappointed since i have been a Sears man since birth. it's sorta like having a neighbor kid you really like around for 15 years then finding out he stole from you. when confronted he gives a half assed apology. i'm more disappointed than pissed.
