Same caliber, same mags, totally different guns. The SAR48 is a converted FAL,....re-calibrated. Basically all parts interchange and it has a permanent mag well adapter. The FNC is laid out more like an AR and uses a rotating bolt patterned after the AK.

Kev pretty well covered it. Here's a couple of pictures of two of the FALs in my stable, one of them is a SAR4800 that's been "legalized" with the U.S. parts to have the pistol grip configuration.
Too bad my little web site's pictures destort badly when they're enlarged. Bill Woodward "FALshot" Portland, OR. http://members.home.net/deanrich/falshot.htm

you can still get FNC's converted to full auto through S&H. He still has registered sears and does the conversion for approx 1900.00
FNC's are nice shooters. I have a semi and have had the pleasure of shooting a Full Auto in March and it rocks. Approx 6000 were imported into the US. 1500 fixed stock and 4500 para folders. The FN para folder stock used on the FNC and FAL's is the best design I have ever seen. Solid, easy to operate. FNC's are very nice rifles |
