Are Israeli FAL mags any better than average?
I have come across a store that has about a half dozen of these for $12 each. I know FAL mags are cheap. Are the Israeli mags worth $12?

All FAL mags are the same, except the Steyr magazines have witness holes in the back, some are made from aluminum instead of steel, and some hold 30 rounds instead of 20. If you're buying new mags, it won't make a difference. I have Israeli, Argentine, Steyr, Belgian and aluminum paratrooper mags. All the same. Whatever is the cheapest, stock up. I have Israeli mags because I have an Israeli rifle, but I'm anal and I like to have the "correct" mags for each variation of rifle.

Izzy mags may have a little more collectible value, but are functionally the same as any other metric mag.

IMHO...the Israeli mags are much better in that the mag catch (front nose) is formed in such a way that there are no sharp creases that would cause stress separations. I have had both FN & Argentinian magazines that have actually had the front nose break off.
If you compare different makes of mags side to side, you'll see the difference.

You made me go and look. The first Izzy I pulled is the same beak-wise. But the middle rib goes all the way up, not quite as nice as the Austrians, Belgians and Argies. Minutae, but hey someone asked.

Snakeshot...
Do you agree that the beak on an Israeli mag is less likely to break than the others?

As cheap as the FAL mags are, you should have hundreds of each manufacture. I doubt you'll break that many in your lifetime.
I have mags that will probably never have a cartridge loaded in them.

My Izzy mags seem to fit tighter in the mag well of my SAR48, but I do have a couple park finished mags that don't "stick" in the well. One even seems to have been made to drop away easier, the rear stud is flatter and beveled at the top, and the front "beak" is flatter. The only thing that bugs me about the Izzy mags is the parked followers, acts like sand paper, I like the blued followers better.

I bought tons of used and refurb'd Izzy mags back in '91 when Sarco had them $2.50/$4.00 each. Other than the Izzy proof marks they are not built any differently than the ones I recently acquired from Old Military Supply a few weeks ago.
