help me fix up this para (pic)
ive been into FALs for a long time and owned quite a few but ive come across this one somewhat recently and have really taken a liking to it. im interested in experimenting and making it as good as it can be.
help me figure out what i should do to it. today i added the bipod and the DSA para mount, the pic shows off one of kfranz's 30rd metrics that came in today. im interested in changing the optics to something more modern, but i cant decide if i want magnification or not. i like the eotech sights and would probably go with one of those if i went with a red dot, but i still like the idea of trying a scope like a 4x or 6x on it. any suggestions on whichi should go with? I shoot this rifle for fun, not for purpose, so either would work for me. also, anybody have any ideas on what sling to try? i have a regular canvas military sling for it but want to try a new style on it, but dont know which ones work well with the FAL. The charging handle i would like to change, it has an ak style hook, which i actually prefer, but it catches me in the back a lot and id like to put it on a different FAL that i dont usually sling over my shoulder. do the metric folding CH's require a modification in the stock to fit? there doesnt look like much space for it to sit. does anyone have experience with the ar-style windage adjustable rear para sights DSA sells? im looking into getting one with the tritium illuminators, and a front sight to match. are they worth it? will the glowing on the sight blind you? im looking for a wider aperature than the one one the regular sight, it is impossible to see thru it in low light. and lastly, ive owned 3 rifles with the FN style bipod, but dont care for them much. they dont adjust for elevation and are impossible to swivel at all. they are nifty for tucking away in the handguard but i want something comfortable to shoot with. which should i look at? harris, versa-pod, other? how exactly does the harris mount in the holes underneath the handguard? thanks in advance guys. |

wel, it looks pretty nice already.
for a sling of course i would reccomend one of rooster's para slings.or,if you want something different, i just got an IDF issue sling which i really like. the FSE metric folding charging handle is a "drop in" part. no modification required. some of the imbel para were issued with the folding CH, and an 18" barrel. and after sept you could put a FH on that barrel.

It already looks good, now you only have to wait until the AWB ends and you can add the FH and make that stock fold.

What I would do to make it perfect....
1. Ditch the bipod....Para's look funny with bipods. And the weight throws off the balance of the gun 2. Forget the flash hider/muzzle brake....you do not need one 3. Cut the barrel on down to 16 inches and shorten the gas system by 3 or 4 inches. Looks cool with the short handguards. 4. put a SAW pistol Grip on it....I just hate the looks of the Ergo grips 5. Go with a Eotech instead of the tritium iron sights. 6. Go with the FSE folding charging handle...they are SWEET! That should put you back $600. But you asked!

thanks for the responses, i was beginning to think my breath smelled or something
. ok, rooster para sling, gotcha. as far as the short gas system, ive been thinking about buying a DSA tactical short gas sytem rifle, i think im going to sell my AR and a few ak's to get it. im hoping i can get in on the us made para set with that. my #1 gun on my want list for all time is a DSA shorty. im going to see if i can get by not selling this one if i can but if not ill sell it for the DSA and just trade over the accessories. i am interested in finding out about the para night sights, seems to me the glowing tritium element that close to your eye would give you night blindness. FSE metric folding CH is next on my list, i love the hook style but it hurts my back when the rifle is slung, so im going to switch it to my fullsize. another thing, yes i need to put a SAW grip on it! i love those things. i have them on several AK's and a FAL, i need switch it to this one. the ergo grip is way too narrow. |

If you actually plan to shoot the rifle alot, I would focus on making it as light as possible.
Lose the bipod, 30 rd. mag, and trilux. Cut the barrel to 16" or 18". Thread the barrel and solder a FSE fake combo device. You can add a flash hider if the AWB sunsets pretty easily. Personally, I hate the plain barrel look on modern military rifles. Send it to CGW for a digital or Rhodesian camo finish. Add an Aimpoint M2 if you have the money.

Oh...forgot one other thing. SAW grip. YUCK! Not on a para. The original is the best or go with Dan's Spporting Goods US pistol grip. Doesn't allow full auto position of the selector. (Wolfburg Bob sells it too) My new Meeper conversion has that grip. The grip angle of the original is unbeatable. Still Doug...you are spot one with this post.

thanks.
this rifle has a 17" barrel already and its still pretty heavy. i dont mind adding a little weight to it, like an optical sight and a light bipod. im really startin to itch for a DSA short gas system carbine so ill probably be filling the "light carbine" FAL role with that pretty soon. (or as soon as i can sell two or three other guns...) |

in the end, only you can decide what makes that para "perfect". thats one of the beauties of the FAL. |

![]() No MB but a FH would be cool come September. I second the vote on a CGW camo finish. Pick you pattern from his list (or request something unique you like...he's incredible!). Finally, sell the wife/GF instead of your AK's.
