L1A1 Sporter at LGS

Good evening all,

Found a L1A1 Sporter FAL, IMBEL Receiver imported by CAI at local shop. Have six photos of it, but have yet to post any pics to the forum. Has wood furniture vice a thumb hole stock, so the interest is peaked.

If there's a more technology savvy member who has some time to help get them posted I'd appreciate it. Would like to get some additional information about this, and if it's a good buy, pick it up.

Please send me a PM and can email the pics, get them posted, and open the gates for advice and thoughts.

Thanks much all! Cheers!

Thanks yellowhand! Let's see if me and Imgur get along...

Imgur takes a few minutes to open an account, then easy to post photos here, all free.

Well done!
Now, all ya got to do to have them this size like below, is to look on the right hand side, at the bottom, once you select the picture you want to copy, then select, large thumbnail, and it will be a proper size for here.

$800 on the tag. If it's worth picking up, was going to send it off to ARS and see if Mark can work his magic to inspect and get it up to fine working order.

Didn't see what the barrel type was. I hope to get back over there today or tomorrow.

Appreciate the feedback!

When it comes to these Century builds using Imbel and Argentine receivers, the rifle is worth the sum on its parts.

If the receiver isn't monkeyed with, it worth around $500 give or take. The fact that it is cut for an inch folding charging handle may be a plus or negative to some (I like a folding charging handle of a range rifle).

The lower and other parts in the pix looks solid and respectable. How does the front end look? Is the barrel neutered?

Scratch my last comment... I just noticed the pic with flash hider. As long as the flash hider is properly installed and/or bubbafied, $800 is a very solid deal... possibly a great deal depending on overall condition of the kit.

That said, I would still walk in with C-notes and offer a cash offer.

Thanks much Mark, appreciate it. Will send you a note over the weekend, headed to that shop tomorrow, to get the "inspection/rework" phase started.

Whoohoo!

While I have a personal preference for southern hemisphere metric FALs [Argentina, Brasil and South Africa], there is something about a Commonwealth gun [from either hemisphere] that is just so right on a visceral level that I may be inclined to acquire one of my own.

Brought this L1A1 home today, much appreciated for the comments and "enabling"

Bore was bright and shiny, very clean rifle all in all. One magazine included (pic shows only marking on the body). No numbers on the bolt or carrier. Didn't take off the handguards to see if there were any barrel markings. No cracks in any of the wood that I could tell, appears to be in great shape overall.

On to the pics:

Nice score Bones! Make sure to check headspace before firing. I picked up a mostly Aussie kit on Imbel a month or so ago and the BCG closed with zero effort on a Foresters No-Go(holding by rat tail and sliding into battery). It had a .254LS installed. Re headspaced with a .259 I had on hand.
The fixing plate rivet looks a little funky, I'm sure Mark will check it out when he gets it.

The next time I hear "THE RANGE IS NOW HOT", it just wont be the same.

Max tried another question. "What sort of people live about here?"
"In THAT direction," the Jin said, waving its right paw round, "lives a Han: And in THAT direction," waving the other paw, "lives a Ming Hare. Visit either you like: they're both mad."
"But I don't want to go among mad people," Max remarked.
"Oh, you can't help that," said the Jin: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Max.
"You must be," said the Jin, "or you wouldn't have come here."
