Esee Izula II

I ordered one yesterday.

Just because I felt like I needed something new and pointy in my life.

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me. Esee makes a good blade, had a 6, but didn't like the ergonomics of it and the choil was too big for my taste.
I prefer no choil or a very minor one on my knife.

Nice looking knife.
A bit small for my large, increasingly arthritic mitt to handle though.

I didn't know what a choil was so I had to look it up after your comments.

Learn something new every day.

I've carried an Applegate-Fairbairn folder for years. Close to ten years now. Figured a change may be nice. And I enjoyed the Esee's I've handled. They've got a good feel to them.

They are a nice little knife, I had mine with me on the last week I spent away....

...As for choils, I actually prefer a knife with a usable choil, not in the Izula size of course but on larger blades.

Good pics! What critter is your blade resting against?

And since you're from Down Under... is it true that Kangaroo's are a nuisance species?

I'm not a Fence Hunter, but Game Ranches over here charge thousands of dollars to hunt them.

......... that is a Fallow Deer, one of about 25 or 30 I took last season. They are not a "nuisance species" as such, no native animal is, here deer, hogs, rabbits, foxes, camels, buffalo, donkey and bantang pretty are the issues depending on where you are. 'Roos are however culled in large numbers (for both human and pet food markets) as they do tend to over breed. They are great eating I should add.

I have a goodley number of ESEE knives, they will serve you well.

It arrived in the mail yesterday.

I liked it, but I kind of don't like it? Very nice knife, crazy sharp. I plan on losing a finger in the future.

But it's a bit small. Smaller than I would have liked. I read around last night and this morning, and overwhelmingly people recommended the ESEE 3 over the IZULA II.

I was on the fence this morning about returning it. But after speaking to several die-hard hunters I work with, they all recommended keeping it. They made the good point that it would suffice for everything we hunt around NC anyways.

I'll give it a go this fall. If it doesn't work out, I'll ebay it for a little loss.
