Practicing for 100 yd 1" dot challenge.
Got out for a bit this morning with my M25 with Kreiger ss in JAE with Leupold 8.5 - 25 for a little practice. Been awhile since she was out on the range. Trying a little different fodder today.
175 smk in Berdan DAG brass with Tula primer over 43.2 gr of RE 15. running at 2500 fps. For the 10 rnds fired max spread was .70 ". Looks like I need to skip my morning coffee next time. ![]() ![]() Semper Fi Art Last edited by ArtBanks; July 16, 2017 at 14:30. |

You got that right. Since Art L. started it on the M14 forum in 2015 I have managed to stay on top. Recently a couple of fellows are starting to get pretty good. Time for me to practice again. I like being good at at least one thing.

Now try that with a stock mosin Nagant with original irons and mil surp ammo. That will be a true test.

True test of something, but I am not quite sure what. I don't think I could even see the 1" dots without my optics. Could try to run Nascar circuit with a Hugo to. About the same. |

No one knows how difficult it really is until they actually try it. You get humbled in a hurry

Practicing for this I single load and get up from position and then back down to establish all over again between shots then acquire site picture and go for it. Challenge is a good descriptive word for it especially with an M-14 type rifle. |

Maybe you could use a nip of "Old Sight Settler". Hear it was a favorite with the old High Power guys.
.700" for 10 rounds, I'd say that was a bit all right. ![]()

Like mainer said, a nip of "sight settler" does work, however heavily frowned upon by ROs. My best shooting is mid-day on Sunday after we come home from church for a late brunch with a couple vodka & OJs. Mind is clear and hands are steady

do it with open sights. most people with intact neurology and focal ability can resolve a black on white contrast that subtends a minute of angle, which is about an inch square at 100 metres. this is apparently the maximal sensitivity for resolution of edge boundary in the retinotopic function of the M cells in the striate cortex...wish I still could.

The next time I hear "THE RANGE IS NOW HOT", it just wont be the same. Max tried another question. "What sort of people live about here?" "In THAT direction," the Jin said, waving its right paw round, "lives a Han: And in THAT direction," waving the other paw, "lives a Ming Hare. Visit either you like: they're both mad." "But I don't want to go among mad people," Max remarked. "Oh, you can't help that," said the Jin: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad." "How do you know I'm mad?" said Max. "You must be," said the Jin, "or you wouldn't have come here." |

Looks like fun to me!
![]() One inch dots are my customary target at 100 yards, with an optic, although I usually shoot for group instead of doing the *one hit wonder.* Sorta off topic: My summer goal is at 50 yards and to *clean* a 25 dot target (.75" diameter and one shot per dot) with a 10/22 I put together last winter. Not the same game but still a challenge, for me. It ought to be easy, right? ![]() I've recently scored 23 and 24 hits with CCI Standard Velocity but haven't cleaned it...yet.

yep, try it with a 10/22. you'll be measuring rim thickness and taking your tubes temperature. sure is nice to smoke a couple high end bolt guns though,

Did the 1 inch squares at 25 yds for the Appleseed using my M&P15-22 (before the ban). Really a PITA but doable. Don't think irons at 100 yards is doable, definitely not from me.
Any rifle or does it have to be an M14 clone? got a couple of bolt guns I'd like to try it with. Plus my AR10. Make your own targets or purchased where?

If you are asking about the 100yd 1" dot challenge, rifle must be an M-14 type any configuration. Photo of rifle and target must be posted. 1 shot per dot.
Ammo load description. May be shot from any position. Any shot contacting the dot is considered a hit. Personally I shoot prone, but many shoot from a bench. Try it , you may like it. Semper Fi Art |

Give it a shot with an FAL. My 50.00 does a fairly good job, but nothing like a built M-14.

My 10/22 build can do it, but I have to step up from CCI SV to SK Std+ or SK Rifle Match.
