5.56APM

Seems the Izzy's have come up with some gee-whiz 5.56 ammo with 73 grain AP bullets that kicks the 7.62's butt for accuracy and penetration at normal battle ranges.
Sure would like to get hold of a case or so.

For them that's interested; Sorry if this is old stuff.

Modern Arms International has a fine 5.56 AP round here on our side of the world

Impact with AR 500 plate

Reasonable wound channel too.

Some private corporate entities can. If fill out the papers and show a need for a particular such as testing ballistic barriers or high threat rifle plates and can show your company does engage in such business then appropriate test samples can be obtained. I normally ask for the larger container in as many cartridges as possible. Ordering a box in 5.56, 6.8 spc II, 7.6239 and 7.6251 doesn't throw flags but imagine if tried to order 500 to 1,000 rounds or more would raise some eyebrows.

Private contracting companies similar to the old Blackwater and others still in business can buy in whatever quantities they need to provide their operators. Working in places like Iraq where contractors have taken on the job of protecting convoys and workers rebuilding infrastructure they need access to quality AP and other small arms munitions. These botique companies making highly specialized ammo in a competative market will go out of their way to make a decent sale. Especially if an armor company puts thesee peoples product on the list of ammunition their armor doesn't defeat as drives up sales to specific people.

Have done enough jobs installing ballistic barriers and now testing rifle plates for a smaller body armor company that was doing in-house. Their landlord came in with a subcontractor to do some sort of facilities maintenance and when saw their bullet trap and shooting rest for testing plates lost his mind about high power rifles being fired in his multitenant building. Was worried they would accidentally send a 30-06 AP into a neighboring unit.

Just happened I ordered three plates from them right after that and when the owner who fielded the call asked why wanted odd number said was going to shoot one pulled at random and make sure it stopped what it was rated for. Then was going wear and test for comfort and if passed all my tests would buy more. He said had an upgraded plate that would be lighter and stronger soon as he could find someone to test them so he was sure had his layup correct and then submit to NIJ for certification.

Submitting for NIJ certification costs fair amount of money and wants to be sure plates pass muster before sending in. I offered, he accepted and now we have a relationship. His only request is when defeat his plates for use with leverage with ammo companies not to let out information on "brand name" of armor defeated. Can tell them their ammo "x" defeated a certified NIJ Level III plate w manufacturers rating of 3+ or 3++. Some I get to say their ammo "z" defeated NIJ Level IV. It's becoming a deal where testing one product makes it easier to get the other product.

Being willing to pay for an initial order and show not trying to just get free schwagg helps too. But takes a long time to run through a 100 round box of four or five cartridges busting plates so might have a fair amount in the storage locker. I keep all company "restricted" AP ammo in a secure locker at work and keep a log book. My records will balance and have pictures and video if need. But 50 to 100 of each cartridge from multiple vendors means can have a fair amount at times. If world goes sideways will pilfer the locker before leaving work for the house while emptying the work gun vault and stacks of armor. I don't get paid but don't pay much for my products. Plates keep for myself are reduced price and sometimes free. Plates I shoot are free and considering was buying them to shoot for years is a big bonus. Win/win/win for armor guy, bullet guys and me.

Why bother? Would be curious if anybody besides .mil got 995.

If you have extra just PM me. Hell, even pay shipping.

That stuff is factory made, at LGS. Made by Prvi Partizan.

How does the Prvi Box describe the ammunition type?

I wonder how it compares to the Carl Gustov. I saw that stuff really go through some steel!

It is just a plain box, showing on the top left the PPU logo, over to the right it says: 20 Cartridges.

Then it says: 5.56x45mm M855. At the bottom it says: lot PPU xxxxxxxx.

Box is a very pale green in color.

I am almost feeling tempted to buy a box, and dismantle one round and cut up one projectile.

M855 is just ordinary steel penetrator ball ammo, small steel insert in the front of the core, tip should be green. Not a designated ARMOR PIERCING round.

No sense in new thread so sticking in newest AP thread I came across. Been watching two auctions on Gunbroker each for a 10 round stripper clip of M80A1 7.62 ammo. Listing on each was $299 and before ended both got a single bid. That makes the stuff worth $30 per round to someone. I need to send Buffman an invoice... Crazy!
