Polymer Case Ammo 30% Lighter

While its being developed for belt fed machine guns at present if it works reliably at some point in the future I bet it will start showing up in the everyday soldiers load-out in a myriad of cartridges.

http://www.defensereview.com/pcp-amm...o-rock-videos/

Soon all the fanboys can buy polymer ammunition to load into polymer magazines and fire from polymer firearms. I will probably stick to steel guns, metal magazines and brass cases but I am not known for being overly smart. Of course if a decade down the road its not blowing up rifles like steel case ammo is reputed to do, runs reliably, is accurate and will store for long periods in varied temperatures like my truck will likely have some.

Would be perfect in my "bug home" pack that carry in truck in case the SHTF and end up having to abandon the truck and walk home from wherever roads become impassible. Somebody has to lay hands on some of this as I want to test it already. Have rifles, ice and long string for pulling trigger to test odd stuff and would like to try it.

Wasn't PCP that ammo that had the white base and
failed miserably years ago?

I'll stick with brass for reloading.

Doubt it will be reloadable but what it's being designed for a good idea if works. Doubt special ops teams will be policing up brass after an operation but appreciate the weight reduction on each belt going in.

Have you never heard of planned obsolescence? How do you expect the poor munitions companies to make a meager profit?

They better also have a shelf life of less than a year so the military has to keep on buying them

Followed the link and they relied heavily on 40 Smith pistol ammo as reasoning for its use by LEO's as defeats Level 3a armor. Most quality 40 Smith is considered a special threat ammo that defeats NIJ Level 3a. 1/3 of modern 9mm will as well plus most 357 SIG. Here is back of one of my special threat plates with list of rounds it stops stand alone that level 3a doesnt.

All this said and for rifle the new 5.56 M85A1 defeats Level 3+ and 4 rifle armor and M80A1 busts level 4 easily. Several companies are making even 7.62x39 ammo that defeats Level 4 rifle and larger calibers that still do proper job on soft tissue once penetrate armor. These specs are common now and should not be anything special.

Well,

Body armor continues to proliferate and I wouldnt stop wearing it unless you want to die. The Army and Marines are currently looking at the cased telescoping polymer from Textron. See below thread for more info.

Anyone else notice the date on the linked AP article ?....August 13, 2004

And IMHO... Polymer cased ammo... has been tried so often, and has yet to get the bugs worked out.

A weight savings would be great .. but I'm not holding my breath.

No offense to anyone.
