Savage No 4 Mk1

I bought a "US Property" Marked, No 4 Mk 1 Enfield, listed on Gunbroker recently.
https://www.gunbroker.com/item/812625599

It has a 6 groove bbl and matching numbers.
I though it had been restored but it appears that its almost new appearance is actually genuine.

Even the underside of the wrist area of the stock shows the S in a square. All Parts are similarly S marked, showing that it never went thru rebuild

It has a BMP mark on the receiver so it did go over there.

I shot it this past weekend and it with the std battle sight, it was hitting right on at 60 and was banging the gong at 210 yards, without a miss.

A damn accurate gun, with iron sights!

The last US Property Savage I owned, I could not get it on paper at 50 yards; I suspect that the two groove bbl was shot out.

It is a delight to own a gun that shoots.

Good score! Sometimes the bores are so full of copper they will actually keyhole. I have yet to buy a well used Enfield that the bore does not need serious copper treatment.

Rifle looks great. Just enough character. Give it a good cleaning and put some tung oil on the stock and shoot the crap out of it.

As a side note or useless trivia at the dinner table. When the Savage contract was completed, all surplus Savage parts where sent up to the Long-Branch plant in Canada for use on the rifles they were producing. I restored an LB rifle and used a mix of LB and Savage parts to be correct, the second rifle from the bottom.

Bought one of those back in 2005 for $180. Only shot it once. I have too damn many guns. Like the two Mausers I've never shot.
