I've heard that Wasr 2's "Can" be picky when it comes to magazines.

Is this a common AK 74 problem? Or more limited to Wasr-2s?

I don't see it being said much about any other models, but I was curious. I'm deliberating on picking up a 5.45 and was just curious about this particular problem.

Thanks.

Many 74's are picky... YMMV... you gotta try a bunch of 'em.

The only ones that I have had issues with were the Polish poly type mags. They would not work in my Tantal funny enough, but would work fine in all others including my krink. The bulgies and russian ones I have had no issues with. I would say that it is more of an issue with mag lockup on the Wasr-2.

out of spec rifles may magazine picky. In spec ones are not.

If the selector stop plate is not adjusted properly for mag fit you will have mags too tight. If the receiver is out of spec, or the ejector, you will have problems. If the problem was "fixed" by filing on the mag catch, you will have bolt over base.

While there are subtle variations in magazines, I suspect the symptoms may be "worked around" with a slightly different magazine but the actual problem not addressed.

or fix the problem with the gun.

IN SPEC
OUT OF SPEC

those are the choices.

Of course, you could just have really bad luck and found several magazines of the same type that are not visibly damaged but all "just happened" to be defective. I think this is less likely.

While I have the gauges and specs for 7.62 magazines, I do not have them yet for 5.45 magazines.
