Stripper clip clearance cut is done.
Stay tuned, next the receiver will be junk, or it will have metric type lightening cuts on the mag well.

Good Orbit. Is that a receiver I know? Do you have an Aussie or Canadian barrel, or is that something else?

No not yours, but if it works out yours is going on the mill next!
The barrel is US made by Splat's mad machinist friend awhile back. Gets me to 922r compliance with all original furniture and exterior parts. Flash hider needs to be replaced with an original and still waiting on a Canadian Bolt. Need to find some 20 & 30 round mags to keep up with Eagle54! This kit found me by chance. Did you find your C2 kit?

goodorbit, why the metric lightening cut?
I thought Canadians had a similar, but bigger, cut like the Brits and Aussies? Looks superb, by the way. |

The original early C1's had the metric receiver cut.
The later versions had the inch type cuts. Goodorbit is correct. Look at page 82, North American FALs, from "The FAL Rifle-Classic Edition" and you will see what I'm talking about. I wish I had your equipment and skill. Good job. |

Exactly... C1's had the metric external lightening cut on the magwell (still otherwise cut in the traditional inch pattern manner except no internal lightening cuts, per the Canadian standard). The next generation, C1A1's, had the more recognizable rectangular cut on the magwell, along with the non-cooling slotted handguards, brown plastic carry handle, different profile stock shoulder, different mag release, etc.
Here is a thread showing the first C1 ever made. The Canadian armorers have long since upgraded it with a C1A1 stock and carry handle as might be expected of a rifle in service, even if it was the first one... http://www.falfiles.com/forums/showt...hreadid=247507 As with all such threads, right click on the pics and save them on your own computer for your own reference. Regards Ben

Thank you all for the kind words.
I should point out that this is planned for a C2A1 build. Many emails to Kevin Adams have me convinced that this is correct. Here is his direct quote: Quote:

Test fire 100%!!!!
Shoots like a caddy! Have a few minor details to tweak then it's off to finish.

In the top two photos, the left side of the lower receiver has some lettering that my C.A.L 8L series FN C1A1 does not. Were you not allowed the original lower receiver?

Good Orbit,
Nice magwell external work, it appears. I did the same on the receiver I am using on my C2, but that was almost a year ago in May before I PCS'd to Japan, and I did not get it finished before putting everything in storage... sigh. Somewhere I have a pic of it though... will have to post it to keep my spirits up here in the land of no firearms...

Getting my parts gathered up...
Here is a quick pic of my parts pile as I am getting started on this Canadian build when I get time. Going to cut the receiver first when I get it laid out. Then test fit parts.

Nice looking rifle. Is that the original finish? Did the Canadians parkerize all their FAL's or did you have that re-finished?

Receiver thumb clearance is cut, receiver has been reparkerized. Some of the parts have been refinished, but the NOS ones are the original finish unless they were scuffed up. Then, they got the refinish, too.

Pat's favorite
What a blast from the past... Looking at Pat's favorite rifle. It clearly has a machined Century Imbel on it in his pics, but it started life as a DSA inch. I imagine he sold off the DSA somewhere along the line. I built 4283 and did the topcover relief back before Pat was doing his own builds. I am thinking that was just about 4 years ago now.
It was a fabulous rifle. http://s260.photobucket.com/albums/i...762/C1A1%208L/ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Adam, I own #4283. Pat did some additional receiver markings on the DSA receiver:

Rifle's getting close now..
Hey guys.
Did my mock up last night, and everything's looking good on my C1A1 build. Never saw a DSA receiver before, was sad when I found out I won't be able to do the old C1+1 trick we did back in the day... Many, many thanks to all you guys out there who have contributed bits and pieces to make this old dog's rifle come together. You know who you are, and I'm not done yet. All those who contributed, I WILL be naming names and pointing fingers at contributors to give credit where credit is due. Getting the thumb relief cut this week, then off to the gunsmith and re park guy. Professional help on setting headspace and barrel timing will be employed, so I can keep all my fingers and eyes. Pictures will be forthcoming once the build is complete. Only one problem; I never carried an 8L, and I'm not cutting the magwell, so I'll have to settle for a later style mag relief cut on my no newer than 6L rifle. Lift a beer or 20 to the newest member of the family.. Ernie

FNC1A1 poster
Not exactly a build of a gun, but I was "inspired" by my AR/M16 sopmod poster. So I made one with my C1 and various accoutraments. I got the photo and hard mounting done through Costco
![]() The photos were taken with my older 8mb pocket camera, but it did the trick. BTW, yes original CAL manufactured rifle. 8L series. ![]() |

This PVS-502 is considered a Gen1, however, I have compared both it, and the PVS4 side by side. They are equal for resolution, clarity, brightness, etc. The only thing is this 502 takes a while to power down, whereas the PVS4 will turn off as soon as the switch is thrown. I think the PAS4 can be found fairly "easy" down south. The PVS502 turns up here in Canada at various gun shows. They are a good piece of kit for the money, and they were good for the era brought in around 1970. |

Here's an old photo an old Lt. of mine emailed me a while ago.
No, I don't have a C1 in my hands, (it's a Sterling), and I think it was taken on a REFORGER excercise in Germany in about 1980-82, not sure... I'm the guy on the left, and I guess we were breaking links for our C1's to eat. I'm not sure on the camo on the face, but we probably just got back from some troublemaking. It's 35 years ago, my memory ain't that good! ![]()
