Question on a Garand part

What is the purpose of the spring loaded check valve type thing in the gas cylinder plug? I have replaced some of these with solid plugs, either machined that way or had a piece silver soldered in place and the rifles seem to work fine. Anybody know what John G. was thinking of when he put that added part in?

A projection on the grenade launcher pushes the spring loaded poppet open venting the gas system so the bolt doesn't cycle when firing grenades.
Not sure it was Garands design as the original plugs were solid.

Thanks for that! Seems I recall asking that question before now that I hear the answer.

This is reproduction of the early-style solid-type. It's what'll go in my Garand 'when I get around to it'

The ones I bought came from Amherst Depot in Florida and where a few bucks less expensive- I think they were $15.00 and looked just like that.

That would be great on my Tanker, instead of the one with the jets.

How well does that adjustable thingy work?

Garand Thing

The Garand Rifle Grenade is a neat gizmo. I launched many a "Blue Round" from one. At the range I had the only one.

Garands are addictive, the way they make holes exactly were you point them is impressive.
