Considering the level of technical and legal ignorance in this article, wouldn't it be ironic if she turned it in with the tax stamp rolled up in the buttstock or somesuch?

It is bitter sweet. Fantastic that they recognized what it was and saw the value in it. A piece of WWII history saved indeed! What about a Lithgow L1A1 from '68, would that be considered a piece of Vietnam War history worth saving?
