Just saw it tonight - I'd give it a thumbs up

Has some twists so I won't spoil it.

Weapon wise - PPK is back but with individual palm reader so only authorized person can shoot it - Lame

Some good motorcycle and car chases as usual

And a guest appearance by original Aston Martin DB5

First two thirds was good last third not so much, almost like they switched directors. Way too sappy and nostalgic. Having said that it was a reboot of sorts and they have everything set to have a great continuation of the Daniel Craig Bond.

Is it the original DB5 or the one in the first Bond film with Craig? They had to use a DB5 with an auto tranny in it because Craig couldn't drive a stick.

When Craig was introduced as the new Bond, the Royal Marines delivered him to the press conference with a high speed run on the Thames in one of their assault craft. Craig later said how frightened he was during that episode. Yeah, he's a pussy. As us rednecks say, "You could take a pine top and a bucket of tar and run'im all over the county".

I believe it is a stick because at one point he flips the top of the shift lever exposing the red button and threatens to eject M for complaining too much (actually I could use that in my car, hmmm). Of course that could have been a studio shot and they used a stunt double to drive the car at normal speed around London

Knowing the actor in real life doesn't like guns and can't handle a clutch does kinda ruin it slightly. Yeah it's a movie not a documentary but still.

Thr GF informs me that in People or some such rag, Cgraig says he had to run a lot in the movie and didn't like it. Now, he may just have been speaking tongue in cheek, but it sure doesn't sound like Sean Connery to me !!!!

Classic James Bond car Aston Martin DB5 reappears in ‘Skyfall’ thanks to 3D printing



European company voxeljet used a massive 3D printer to create three replicas, one of which was auctioned by Christie’s for $100,000. Indistinguishable from the priceless original even in close-ups, the models are exquisitely detailed, including bullet holes, and are expected to start a trend of 3D printing in film.

James Bond is known for his cutting-edge gadgets, but one of the spy's technological tricks in "Skyfall" is so subtle that viewers won’t even know he’s showing it off.
In a nod to Bond legend Sean Connery, who famously played the title role in the 1960s, the new film finds its hero, who is played by Daniel Craig, driving the same classic chrome Aston Martin DB5 that first appeared in “Goldfinger.”

But the car is a clever fake - it’s a small-scale model created by a Bavarian 3D printing company.

Instead of risking damage to the priceless original, notably in a scene where the car explodes, the movie’s special-effects team sought the help of voxeljet, a European company that used a massive 3D printer to create three perfectly scaled replicas of the vehicle.

The company, hired for the project by British firm Propshop Modelmakers, printed out 18 separate pieces per car for a total of 54 parts so that the mini Aston Martins could be put together with fully functioning doors, trunks, hoods and other features.

"We could have easily printed the legendary sports car in one piece at a scale of 1:3 using our high-end VX4000 printer, which can build moulds and models in dimensions of up to eight cubic metres,” voxeljet CEO Dr. Ingo Ederer said, according to 3Ders.org.

“But the British model builders were pursuing a different approach. To ensure that the Aston Martin was as true to detail as possible, and for the purpose of integrating numerous functions into the film models, they decided on an assembly consisting of a total of 18 individual components,” he added. “The entire body is based on a steel frame, almost identical to how vehicles were assembled in the past.”

Once each of the pieces was printed, voxeljet shipped the parts to London, where the model builders painted them in the steel gray color of the original car and added chrome detailing to heighten the realism, including bullet holes, according to the site.

“It seems almost a shame that at least one of the three models, which are the result of painstaking work, goes up in flames in the film,” the company said on its website. “An expensive crash, since one of the three models was auctioned off by Christie's for almost $100,000.”

“Skyfall” marks the sixth time the Aston Martin DB5 has been featured in a Bond film.

“The first of five distinct Aston Martin models to be featured in James Bond films, DB5 continues to be celebrated as one of the most iconic cars ever produced,” the car company said on its website, which touts the long history of its brand with Bond.

I forget how many of these DB5's were made for Goldfinger. One was sent around the country on a promotional tour. It wound up in the showroom of the local Ford tractor dealer for a few days. Daddy took me and one of my buddies to see it. I remember sitting behind the wheel of James Bond's car and the only 2 switches that worked were for the bullet proof shield and the revolving license plates. Helluva thrill for a redneck farmboy.
