STG58 Seeks a Trilux

I stumbled onto a great value in an STG58 kit at a gun-show a couple years ago. Found an Imbel upper and had Gunplumber put together a beautiful finished rifle. My eyes are too poor to enjoy shooting peeps at anything beyond 100 yds so I would like to scope it.

Unlike my other FrankenFAL (TA11+DSA railed dustcover) that I love to shoot. On this I do not want to stray (much) from a milspec-type pattern. Would a Trilux have gone on an STG58? If not I want to put one on anyway.

- What will I need to look for in a complete mountable package?
- What sort of market price is fair today
- Best place to source (with confidence)
- On the internet I stumble upon notes about recharging the tritium reticle. Is this doable/legit?

The SUIT was used by the Common Wealth countries, and Israel. For a STG I'd guess maybe a OIP.

Trilux is a commonwealth specific item and not issue for a Stg58

Will it fit maybe - I think there is a tab on the L1A1 Trilux mount that the receiver needs a relief cut to accommodate but I could be wrong.

Someone with more hands on experience will likely chime in for you

As said, the SUIT isn't original to the StG58, but it will work.
If you want one that will work and has already been modified for metric here you go. Buy it before I do.

Thanks all. Thanks to this thread I have a couple SUITs coming my way. One for my STG58 and an Israeli one for my yet to be realised Israeli "Warhammer".

Now, would that later rifle be considered metric or inch. I believe DSA puts it on what's known as a type II receiver.

I had a SUIT once. Occasionally, the recoil would be just right, causing the eye cup to seal around my eye and become a suction cup. I didn't dig that.

Sold it and bought a Leupold VX-R Patrol 1.25x4 and never looked back.

I've used a couple of SUITs on a couple of different Stgs in the past. The problem I had was with the rear sight hitting the suction cup where it mated with the SUIT. On one of the Stgs, I used a folding commonwealth rear sight and an Israeli #4 front sight. That way I could use the SUIT or the irons.

On the other Stg, I removed the stop pin on the rear sight so I could slide the aperture off the base when using the SUIT (this risks losing rear sight parts while playing with the setup at the range).

Years ago, some members mentioned cutting out a small piece of the rubber eye cup where it would hit the top of the rear sight.

However you do it, it is doable. Let us know how it works out for you.

Wanna thank Texgunner and Grinder fro getting me into nice SUITs.

Now that I have one mounted I have a quick question: After mounting it feels like the stock on an FAL is too long to let me get up into the SUIT for comfortable good eye relief into the rubber eye cup. And I've got pretty longs arms. I have an ACOG TA11 on another FAL and the eye relief is much further back so no problem there. Is this just me or is this a “thing” with these scopes?

It's a "thing" with the SUIT. Short eye relief. I don't like using them at all but want one to complete the look of a build. I'll probably never fire the rifle with it installed.

Call England and ask. Or maybe Israel. I'd be guessing to come up with the slightest of answer.
It's not uncommon, however, with military issue scopes if you think about it. Every Hensodlt scope I've ever used regardless of mount has had very short eye relief in the application.

But, with that rubber eyecup, and one's eye pressed up against it, isn't the eye relief determined by that? I have an ACOG TA01 4x32 on a PSA M4-type and I find that I need my nose against the charging handle for the best result. Is that typical for those?

Btw- GS, did you need to refocus the rear lens on your SUIT, or does it seem clear as is?
