That phrase sounds familiar for some reason...oh wait!! That mag looks sweet, we should take some time to test it out at PA.

Great looking wood you got on that L1A1!! I'm glad you finally got it to where you wanted it. I took mine out of the safe yesterday to put the wood furniture back on it... made me grin. Had the marynal polymer on it when I was out in the bush (of GA). Since I didn't buy that SIG I've had to avoid the marketplace because I'm feeling a strong urge to get my SLR some company in the safe Must resist!

I have a beat up build that I got from my brother, but I am ashamed to post pictures until I do some work on it.

British L1A1.

My finished British Inch cut L1A1-SLR. This was finished and built by Randy Kline in Texas. I have to say that Randy did an awesome job!.. he really is a true craftsman. The baked enamel finish is just like the original. Randy has test fired it and says that it works great. Now I just need to get down the range and try her out myself!

The rifle is built on an Entreprise upper receiver. It seems that Entreprise have had some bad press on the forums. However I have to report that according to Randy this receiver was well built and went together easily. (Plus Entreprise matched my serial number with the lower which is nice) I also found Albert at Entreprise very nice to work with.

As an Ex Royal Air Force NCO who served during the cold war this rifle has a special place in my heart. When I emigrated here to the US 20 years ago I always dreamed about owning one. Now my dream has come true! :-)

Wonderful pictures well done

Excellent pictures of the SLR, it is great to see how well they are looked after and the fine condition of these examples, a lot of work goes into keeping them like that I know. I like to see them in the correct military spec rather than the sport shooter modified versions. These are all nicely preserved as a bit of classic military history for the future. Thanks for posting your pictures.

L1A1 Ammo to Weapon Ratio

So, not sure if I've got this right, but I think I'm on the right track. With 8 full mags and 800 rds in ammo cans, I may be set....for the moment!

8 full magazines and 800 rds back-up? That'll last thru about the first day of battling zombie hordes, or other festivities, but you gonna have a sore shoulder! BTW how short is that barrel? Looks to be about 16"?

My gunsmith cut it down to 16 3/4 in. He said it would not function properly any shorter. The gas port is on 3 and cycles just fine. Although it took some trial and error to find the proper setting.

Just got my rifle back from Mark today, stunning work. It took 9 months to find all the right parts, but I think it was worth it. A big thanks to everyone who helped me find parts along the way!

def90, what's up with the band on the HGs? Did you install the stud on the buttstock or was it like that when you got it? Nice SLR

Until I get around to acquiring a Brit cut receiver for this other kit, this is the best I can do. These were both century builds that have been nurtured back to their former glory.

Great rifles! The stud on the buttstock and the handguard ring are part of an Arctic L1A1 setup.. the double loop sling acts as a backpack style sling

That's all? And not even a beverage, foot etc. in the picture....

Seriously...that's beyond-words awesome. I'm drooling over that pristine production sample/war reserve piece at upper left.

(And that's probably JUST your British SLRs, right?)

The Real McCoy

As the title says. I bought this for the princely sum of 365 Pounds back in 1985 when you could own the good stuff in the UK. This is me trying my luck at Bisley on a bloody cold day. I would love to get another one, so I'll be quietly shopping for a good rifle kit, or complete rifle in the near future.

Restoring my L1A1,

after buying this rifle I decided to renew his life. I understand that may collectors don't agree with what I am doing but the rifle tells me It has spent too much time without receiving any care and attentions. The barrel and all the mechanics are in good conditions but the bluing and the external surfaces need urgently maintenance. I decide to polish and re-bluing it and here are some pics showing my up to now work:

Ciao

Hi Gio, Can you get access to an engineering workshop with A Glass bead blaster. Glass bead Bellotini grade AE gives a great start to refinishing and help metal grain structure . Cheers.

If I'm thinking of the right L1, then that would have to be in the Australian Section , I know there are some photos of the FTR rifle somewhere on here. I still have the rifle.
