I thought the ingravings were going to be white letter filled..

Looks clean. I'm probably going to go wi the grunt-grade battle-worn version w/o a muzzle device.

Thank you so much for sharing the pictures, I know that you replaced stock and hand guards, but how the original stock and hand guards looked like? were they in good condition or do they need to be re-finished?
Thanks

They weren't bad. The HGs were actually in pretty good condition, the butt-stock had many more bruises than did the HGs, no gouges on either. I think they would clean up and refinish very nicely. However, I had new stuff that I had been holding onto for 15 years and decided now was the time to put them to use. I had just recently thought about offering the parts as a complete set for sell on the "falfiles", the timing worked out.

That is awesome! Can't wait for mine to be delivered should be soon, put on order December 31, it would be my first FAL rifle. Already got about 20 different mags that I bought from FAL files members, just got some brass 308 ammo, been shooting cheap Russian steel in my PTR 91 and newly acquired Galil 308. Kind of thinking to buy an FAL kit to be build, but need to learn more about this rifles.

Well, Thank You; however, your not really seeing anything much of an original rifle.
New made barrel, new made receiver, NOS wood, NOS trigger housing, many other small parts that are either new made or NOS OEM.
The bolt-carrier and bolt are mostly it for used original parts and you can't see much of them.

I like it! I like the worn look but not abused, after all, itís a 60+ year old battle rifle that has seen action in the past. I was expecting to see open ear gas block with lugged barrel.

Paco, Thank you for the photos! I like the fact that the rifle has the vertical receiver-release lever as I have always disliked the horizontal lever.
I will be changing out that lever on my rifle to get an original FN vertical lever on the rifle. Just happen to have one like the one in your photos!

That's because it's a real FN made Israeli rifle, not a DSA.

I see all these original engravings....and just do not see the big deal. I am better off than many on here in one big way....I am getting one, and baring mechanical issues, WILL BE HAPPY WITH IT. Those complaining about the engravings....would not be happy with anything but a fully israeli made and imported rifle. Sorry. Thats not possible. But I belive that must anger them on some level, so they simply MUST trash these engravings. Hope dsa knows many love these rifles, just remember to make sure the function matches the cosmetics for us.

Better off.....because I am a realist. Better off because I accept what I can legally acquire; a tribute rifle. A good one at that.

Yes, probably an assembly alignment point. The interesting aspect would be to look at the barrel for a similarly placed mark.

20mph wind / 35 degrees / Rain / Sleet.

Gag. Nope nope nopety nope nope. I aint going out to shoot in that weather unless my life or family depends upon it.

Reminds me of my childhood at Shea Stadium watching the NY Jets lose AGAIN at the end of ANOTHER losing season. My dad wouldn't ever let us leave till the game was over even if they were down 21-3 at the end of the 4th quarter

Thanks for the vid tho.

Anyone order and get the "battlefield worn" version of these rifles? Might go that route.

You're Welcome

So, all the rest of you guys waiting just got moved up on place. I cancelled my order. Got tired of waiting and realized I had lost interest after I purchased a fantastic AR-10 a month ago.

Enjoy your Hebrew Rifles and I'll look forward to updates and reports.

DSA handled the cancellation very quickly, professionally and courtesly. No fuss. No muss. I sent message: Please cancel Order NUMBER and they replied an hour later, it's been cancelled.

Easy.

Early were Manganese Phosphate (dark Gray), late were black over park. It's really "correct" (or at least not incorrect) to have some of both on same gun. Armorer doesn't care. Whatever part is next in the bin.

But from a cosmetic perspective, I think they should be all black or all park. Black looks better IMO, but the park would have been more common.

I have a 55 dated FN barrel with izzy proofs and the early open ear gas block that has the extension on the rear that fits into the keyway cut on the barrel...serial number is 993...it looks to be black paint over parkerizing....I think maybe the FN guns were paint over park...the izzy assembled guns look to have started out as park but later went to paint over park...so many of the parts that are out there have been refinished that itís hard to tell what the original finish was...and the fact they mixed finishes makes it harder....

Now in tenth week of 6 to 8

awaiting shipment notice from DSA. I am assured there are not problems with the order and I should have the gun in a week or two, or last week. I do wish DSA would be honest about this. And others who ordered on the same date or later have posted pictures of their delivered rifles so what gives in the DSA lottery?

It'll be worth the wait. The few that have received one I have only heard good things so far. You certainly cannot reach a conclusion from such limited feedback but it's pointing in the right direction.

And until you guys have handed over money years in advance to a company like HMG you should not be too upset. It was refreshing that DSA just took your card info when ordering and does not charge until shipping so while the wait sucks you're out nothing and eventually will get a sweet piece of history.

I ordered one on Feb 8th. Earlier that day I called and asked to be put on the waiting list as they hadn't allowed preorder on their website yet. The Rep said I was 7th in line at that time. That evening a member clued me that DSA's facebook had linked the soldier model so I ordered it then.

So far no word or charges to my CC. I hope this means they are taking their time and getting them perfect.

Why brick & mortar retailers are a dying thing

I'm a little bored on a Saturday so I thought I'd share this experience:

I notice on the website is says there is “Dealer Pricing” available. I go to the LGS where I have transfers done and basically offer to buy one of these through them as long as it’s a better deal that buying direct. I wanna support a local brick & mortar if possible – right? I even tell the guy (three times per below) I don’t know what his margin might be @ Dealer Cost but as long as I’m saving $50-150 bucks and it’s worth his while to make more than just the transfer fee of me having it sent to his shop I’d like him to give a try.

1) At his shop I describe what it is I seek telling him I’m well aware these are kit builds with lead times, etc. He starts poo-pooing DSArms saying they don’t stand behind their work under warranty anymore and they take sometimes six months to deliver, bad communications, etc. All of which I understand to be true (or may have been true in recent years). I tell him I understand that via all the forums I read but I am eyes-wide-open on this one as I’ve done my research (via this thread and others). So he says he’ll get with them and see if he can purchase as a dealer and get back to me within a week.

2) A week and a half later I type a very specific email to the email addy on their website reminding me of who I am, the conversation we had and sent a link to the DSA Israeli Soldier Grade FAL.

3) Wait another week and call reminding him of who I was and asked if they saw my email or talked to DSA. He says they get 90% spam from that email so, no he hadn’t seen it. I told him I would print the email and drop it by his shop so he had all details and/or try to resend. I resent. Called back an hour later and he see’s the email. “Okay, gime call later in the week” he says. That was last Sat. Yesterday. I call him back and run through the whole thing with him again. “ If I can save a buck going through you . . . yadah yadah.” He says he’ll call DSA and get back to me later in the day or Mon.

4) To his credit he calls me back a couple hours later saying he talked to a guy he knows at DSA: “These things are old parts and pieces they gotta figure out and put together. They are only making a few at a time. They’re gonna take 13-16 weeks (sometimes they take six months), etc”. "You're going to be calling me every other week asking where it is" He's literally trying to talk me out of it a second time. “. . . . but it you wanna come down to the shop and place an order for one it’ll be $1,500 out the door AND we charge your credit card at time of order”. I said “you’re gonna charge my card now? If I buy from DSA they charge me when it ships and BTW it’s only $1,400 from them, shipped, w/o tax. I thanked him for looking into it and was saying goodbye. "So you don't want me to order one for you?" He acted stunned and a little irritated that I was not rushing down to give him my money.

Nice guys there and I like the barber shop chit chat but . . . seriously??? This is a place that regularly has common SKS’s for $700+, Mosins for $250+ and a wall of M1 Carbines for 1,200+ (including a Universal for $800). I guess they sell them to the less informed.

I understand you need margin to run a retail business and, yes, for a special order PO he wants to get my money upfront (cuz what if I bail) but in this case I was feeding him a sale I was doing anyway and it will be a $100 more? I'd prepay it if there was 10-15% benefit to me. As stated above I just placed my order wi DSA last night. Let the countdown begin. I guess these guys will just continue to get my transfer fees.

I do not think that DSA gives dealers that much of a discount. I had my LGS (Rink's Gun shop Illinois) Call DSA and get me a price. They did, the best they could do was to meet DSA's manufactured price of $1495. Lynn told me that's best she could do and she was only making a few dollars on the rifle. And I believer she, I have been dealing with their for 30 years I just think some manufactures don't give dealers that much specially if to manufacture is selling online.

I understand you need margin to run a retail business...

I don't think you actually do understand that, or don't understand what "margin" means. It means that every minute the guy spends on you trying to squeeze $100 out of him on price, he could be spending time with another customer who is going to buy a firearm from his shop, as is, without the hassle of messing around trying to special-order you a rifle you could just as well easily buy online.

I don't get what the point of your rambling story is, frankly, other than to prove you are a PIA customer.
