First set below is actuall STAMPED numbers and second is the ROLLER STENCILED/ETCHED RA 0036 numbers.....

As always THANKS for sharing your knowledge as well as opinions
LaC

Barrel 337670
Lower 306569
Bolt 036
Carrier 036

Now for the INTERESTING NUMBERS!
This rifle is NOT electro penciled but what I call ROLLER STENCILED!
Lower RA0036
Bolt RA0036
Carrier RA0036
It may just be a curious coincidence. I don't think the Rhodesians really force-matched anything.

Oops, I got sidetracked. I just sent Nebs a PM, so we'll see if we can't get these back together.

Thanks!

hmmm. interesting. I guess its time to dig out the rhodie box. I wonder if I even still have these. I was thinning my SA herd to a few select pieces and an all number matched kit.

Will check.

Here's another one for the list. A few months ago I found a need to replace one of my lowers. I ordered one blind from Sarco and was very pleased to receive a very good ++ Belgian #17799 with RA1001 penciled on the right side. Except for selector movement line in blueing it is cherry. I was either going to Duracoat it Matt Black like the rest of this particular FAL or have my son-in-law Park it (he does beeeeutiful work) but with it being as nice as it is, I decided what the heck. Oh, yeah. It fits and functions as nicely as it looks.

Too bad! Well, if whoever has it sees this, I'm open for suggestions. Buy, sell, trade, either way, to or from. It would be nice to see it all together again.

Thanks for checking.

Start a paint matching thread, it will be more productive.

These guns are not supposed to match. They were used in a very desperate, loosing, war. It's a wonder that the Zim gov't was able to sell off more or less complete kits.

The Rhodies used these things to the last.

I've read that it was not uncommon to have armorers re-barrel upper up to THREE TIMES before the war ended.

If you got a kit and built it, than you have a "matching" Rhodie rifle.

I guess it just flies in the spirit of rebuilding a Rhodie rifle.

Now... If you wanted to start a South African R1 matching numbers thread, then you might have a better chance, but even then, those things were used in real wars.

The only reason the Argy one made so much sense is that those things were basically imported and sold as #'s matching, so yeah.

Same with Austrian StG58 kits, those weren't really USED, so many were matching because they were cut up and sold as complete kits.

Maybe you see what I'm saying. The Rhodie matching thing is the absolute least possible way to get a numbers matching.

Hey Topbanana,

Well,...I agree with your statement....this thread may be a little bit silly, hopeless...but what else do we have to do?

Electropenciled numbers may match but FN numbers will not,...and viceversa!

Be sure to get the most recent number on the parts, you need to avoid any confusion in this case.

I will offer that as things got more desperate though, I doubt they spent any amount of time with numbering their rifle parts.

My understanding (from folks that were involved with the import of the Rhodie kits) is that most of them were matching, at least mostly, when they were demilled. Since the kits weren't held in much esteem, as there were "better" parts available, they didn't try to keep matching numbers together. They could have, but at the time, nobody cared.

Topbanana, your knowledge of the Rhodesian Military and the history of the Bush War is sorely lacking.

My RA parts came from the SARCO bins.

That's how much they cared to keep kits matched.

Since my kit gun is a mongrel, I don't care what number my lower or bolt or barrel has.... but if it allows someone who wants to reunite the parts to do so, no harm no foul.

I bid you peace (through superior firepower)

Hey, I picked up another Rhodie lower. Not sure of the country of manufacture. As I start taking if apart to clean I may see some other stamps. If so I'll update.

Stamped / Electro
292001 / RA8421

I'm glad to see this thread still going.

Happy Fathers Day Gents (even if your only 'offspring' is the bent one you replaced on your FAL's gas piston...).

I have a para lower that is EP'd RA1688 and stamped 33741. Bolt is 240215, no # on the carrier.

OK, Archy suggested that I post the number of my new/old lower receiver here so here it is: stamped left side 033; electropenciled right side RA0033. I also have an SLR from Australia with RA# electropenciled right side, let me know if you want that #. It is from an Aussie contract sale.

Just started readign this thread and I think the metric FAL I just got my ahve a rhodie lower and some other bits. Bolt has no proofs on it whatsoever and i serialed 235025. The carrier is also sterile and serialed 230022.
The lower has the lever for takedown next to the safety with only markings on L/S being the A,S,& R selector markings...which the selector will go to the full auto position and the allows hammer to follow the carrier when bolt is manipulated. Only other marking on the receiver is the serial on the R/S below rear sight # 224740. The receiver is an "enterprise type 03 Metric with a four digit serial that has an IM prefix at the front of serial. Do any of these parts smell of Rhodie lineage ?.

I don't know if my information will help, except for maybe locating South African parts, but my FAL has what appears to be, two such parts. My bolt is marked, RA6554, and the lower receiver is marked, RA4177/303654. I purchased this rifle from a local gun shop as a DSA FAL, so I don't know if DSA ever used S. African parts to assemble their rifles, or if this was done by an individual. Originally it had an 18" barrel, but it was heavily pitted, so I replaced it with a new Argentine barrel from Sarco. Anyway...I hope this info is useful to someone.

The word "free" is carved into the left side of the stock. I wonder what stories it could tell. . . . .

Very cool pictures!

I wonder, what does the X with circle around it signify?

I dunno. I've seen it on photo's of other lowers, but haven't found an answer to that yet. I bought this planning on using the internals for a para build I'm collecting parts for. But now? I feel like I've got a piece of history in my hands and am thinking I need to add a Rhodie to my collection. Man, this is a sickness!

Thanksgiving BUMP for the Rhodie Fans with an update to the chart. Several new numbers since the last chart update but no matches so far.
Updates from members kuffaar, tothemax, saigamantx, ac7120, gew98 (I believe your kit to be an Imbel, if Rhodie should have electropenciled numbers but I added them to this chart anyway)., Exit308, tangoben and A4570Guy

Keep those numbers coming!
