Heh heh... nope. FN did switch to horizontal frame locks. They were a superior design, supposedly. (Imbel rifles are essentially late model FN 50.00 copies, right down to the gas plugs and selectors) FN horizontal frame locks are distinguishable by thier larger beehive, as compared to Imbels, for example. The FN horizontal frame lock has a large beehive like it's earlier vertical brethren.

FN also made grenade launcher gas plug/sights. I've seen a couple FN date proofed ones. Not many. But a few.

Now, I've got a SA proofed mag catch here. THAT is something I've only ever seen ONE of.

The lucky owner wasn't aware he had a complete matching numbers kit at first; in fact, I don't think he realized it was even Belgian till I started to pick through it. He can stand up and crow if he wants, but I usually don't spill the beans.

As for the artist remark... Pfft. I just screw 'em together and blow paint on them, you know. How hard IS it? Creative? Maybe. Picky? Yeah, 'fraid so. Lucky? Damn straight. Otherwise I'm just an ordinary sucker like anyone else.

I need to make my Krylon painted Rhody look like Adam's. Took it for a shoot this weekend and put 10 rounds into 3" group with wobbly iron sights!

It's a Sarco kit with a new S.A. barrel. I bet it will group under 2" with a scope!

Now, I need to get me a blasting cabinet and beautify it.

Maybe he factory numbers on mine are SA not Steyer, makes more sense. Duh! shows you how many real SA parts I've seen. The SA numbers look just like the STGs I've run across.

Lower is ZA-21119. Looks to be etched or something as it is very precise. No serial number present (IMBEL).

Bolt carrier is ZA-20212 most likely electropencil. IMBEL Serial number 258426. Bolt has a matching serial number but is not ZA marked. I'll put up the barrel serial no. tomorrow. It is from Pretoria, SA. No ZA or RA numbers. Handguard has an electropencil marking that is odd. I'll put it up tomorrow as well.

I got an interesting kit in the marketplace. It's all RA# matching AND all South African manufacture #'s matching.

I also had a discussion with one of the people who was involved in the Rhodie kits being imported. He told me when they came in it would have been easy for them to match these up and make them the kit from the original rifle. The boss though thought the idea was silly. He said they cam in on pallets with the front ends all on the bottom, the lowers all on the next layer, and the small parts on top. They just grabbed the components and threw them together for complete kits not caring if they were originally together or not. So, there IS hope that some of them can be matched back up.

Barrel: Belgian proof mark only. BC - 245416 , bolt - 245416 , lower RA6443 ,original above latch-325548

Wooden stock: Although not on the list, this stock has a number near the tang vertically stamped - 736. It is original and still has some green paint in the deepest gouges that I purposely left. Is this common and who might have done it?

You may be right Hootman but I don't know for sure. Some later mnfr may have left LIW with horizontals but no proof either way at this stage.

We had a problem with them popping open when firing rifle grenades (which we did a lot) and ALL R1/FALs in inventory had the verticals swapped with horizontals sometime in the 70s - they evidence this by having the numbers neatly factory stamped (for the vertical lever) and then hand re-stamped below the rear sight as the original number was obscured by the horizontal arm.

I still think this is silly. These rifles didn't match when used by the Rhodies. A matching rifle would be one where all the paint matches up.

DAMN how did I miss this for SO LOOOONG!! I wanna PLAY!!

OK for a few loose items.
I have a UM marked barrel with ser# 23845

I also have a stripped lower ser# 336767 with ElectroPencil RA14792
Here is the LOWER.

Now for the "SERVICE BROWN" R1, SA? Not sure of the true designation Moses just call's it my "TURD BROWN" FAL

Now here are the numbers for my "BROWNIE"

Barrel 337670
Lower 306569
Bolt 036
Carrier 036

Now for the INTERESTING NUMBERS!
This rifle is NOT electro penciled but what I call ROLLER STENCILED!
Lower RA0036
Bolt RA0036
Carrier RA0036

Again I am not sure about ANYTHING with the life of this rifle other than I am sure that it made it to Rhodesia from South Africa. Just from looking at info I am pretty sure it was a SA manufactured. IT doesn't have NOR does it apprear to have had the ser. numbers at the lower part of the LOWER receiver like the original FN marked lowers with the vertical lever. As you can see it only has the numbers higher up the lower with a horizontal locking lever.

The bolt and carrier STAMPED numbers do NOT appear to be "FORCE" matched but I cannot say that without a doubt.

Thanks for allowing me to play along and ALSO...Thanks for the list EMBATP and AEZCUR!!

BUMP!! for those Rhodie fans.....and another update to the chart.

Hoot G; You are welcome, I like doing this although is harder for the Rhodies than for the Argy (I must admit!). and yes, I'm doing this data loading on Excel and everytime I get a new number I do a "FIND" to see if that number has been already entered.....and guess what?? Your lower is the first match in this whole thread ,....with bolt and carrier from nebula8080....you both have something to talk about now.....

Also, LaConservationist.......Your SA (Brownie....BEAUTIFUL by the way!) lower has the same Belgian serial number as a lower that belongs to Nebula8080 but the RA number is different......so there is some confusion there with the numbers, perhaps some numbers have been 'erased' and re-stamped....don't know!

OK, guys, enjoy the latest chart,...and keep bringing those numbers!

Hey guys, what do you make of the numbers STAMPED into my bolt and carrier being 036? Coincedence? Or do you think they were "FORCE MATCHED" I would have thought if forced matched why not make it 0036? Just courious is all!

First set below is actuall STAMPED numbers and second is the ROLLER STENCILED/ETCHED RA 0036 numbers.....

As always THANKS for sharing your knowledge as well as opinions
