Unless I'm wrong your seeing what numbers are out there (kinda like what was done for the ....Argy kits/rifles?) So, if we're lucky we can put complete kits/parts back together. Or am I way off base?

Hi embatp,
Would you like me to help compiling the numbers in one chart that you can post in your first post every time there is new info? (like we do with the Argy kits?) I can help....
Abel

I'm afraid you'll be disappointed with your results on the Rhodie's guys. These were probably not numbers matching when they were used. Rhodesia, pretty well used whatever they could get from wherever. They did a lot of force matching number by grinding and electro-penciling. I do wish you luck though!

LOL...that's true. Let me ask, are you looking for the electro-penciled RA/ZA serial numbers or the manufacturers serial numbers? Also, you might have more luck if you break stuff down into country of origin: Belgian, South African, Imbel, or even the odd L1A1. A bunch of the Rhodie kits had Belgian parts. I've got a nice Belgian Type 1, SRA marked lower right now that has a RA serial number on it. It's not penciled though it looks almost embossed. A couple of years ago I sold 160 barrels here, many of them were Rhodie. I'll try and help with whatever I can.

well i listed both numbers....would most of these rifles have been snuck into rhodesia as parts or completed rifles or both? maybe somone might have say a belgian lower that somone else may have a bolt and carrier that match but have RA marking as well.....just seeing whats all out there...maybe someone will get some benefit...

Here is what I have:

Type 1 Belgian Lower. RA/H057, Original serial is 3466 or possibly longer. I believe the scrubbed section is probably where an M inside a U was. That was the symbol for SA army I believe.

The RA# on this one was not penciled in, I'm not sure how it was done.

I also have:

South African Bolt and Carrier #272138, RA11768

Belgian Bolt 5381, Z18466

South African Bolt 332718, RA13468

Too bad I don't have all of these anymore. Most of these made their way through Rhodesia.

Here we go with the latest update for the Rhodie's chart (data from Vermin, Bigger_is_Better, and mine). I didn't even know that I had a Rhodie carrier...(I don't remember when I got it! the MP is so tempting some times!!)

For the latest chart go to the end of the thread. Thanks.

I have a para lower with "RA14842" electropenciled on the right hand side, just above and to the left of the bolt the pg mounts on. On the left side, under the sight notch it is marked 937052. Selector markings S,R,A.

Its a steel lower, not aluminum. The little square piece between the upper and lower stock tubes looks sintered...very rough looking. The butt pad is some sort of rubbery material, not metal.

Rhodie/South African?

Carolina,
If you post a pic I'm sure that some Rhodie/SA expert will come to the rescue and answer your question. Thanks for the numbers!

Of all the South African barrels I've messed with most were in the 200,000-400,000 range. I figure they started at 2 or so.

Hi Vermin,
Not a problem.

To everyone: Please, check your Serial numbers in the chart because I am not *bullet-proof* in my ''copy & paste'' skills...

Chart updated with Nebula8080 data as well. Keep the numbers coming! two days ago we only had 5 rows of data....today is 16.....we have only 499,984 more numbers to go!!

For the latest chart go to the end of the thread. Thanks.

Update for you.........

I realize this is probably a dead issue unlike the Argentine thread, but......I pulled my handguards. These rifles are of course built already, so,

But for what it's worth..........barrel numbers...........

on my #1) 292611

on my #2) un-numbered except for this code; DL-13-47

on my #3) para; 332740

All barrels are Pretoria stamped.

R1

I'll have a matching numbers Belgian R1 popping out soon. I have a spare lower and barrel I am building for myself, as well, and I'll toss the #s out here to see how they shake before I make a rifle out of them. The R1 thing has really gotten my interest lately. I'll blame Maj. Henry West here, 'cause he supplied a VERY interesting kit....

Hope I've found the right thread this time... another story.

I purchased nine kits from Sarco in spring of 2009. When it came, most of the bolt & carriers had been sanitized of serial #'s. But here are my lowers:

Lowers
029/RA029
12955/RA3755
226_36/RA1849 (can't make out the 4th digit, it may be missing its so light)
226666/RA2409
238320/RA17105
240681/ZA10483
328832/RA7082
x5808/RA1105 (the x was ground off, similar to one of Bigger is better)
74538/RA18280

Thanks aezcur for your diligence.

It's time for an updated chart! 2/20/10 . Data from LandCruiser (what a stash!! ) and Blue Monster. Thank you both for playing along.

For the latest chart go to the end of the thread. Thanks!

You will notice that all the intermediate chart updates have been deleted, we are keeping only the chart on embatp's first post and the last chart at the end of the thread. We are not deleting FAL or other pics, just the chart to save some space in the server. (I want to mention that nobody asked me to do it, it just makes sense to eliminate those intermediate updates)

You guys should really be doing with FAL types that were actually matching when in use.

Rhodie

Here's a cutie I finished last week or the week before... maybe before the snow, hell, I can't remember... anyway, I'll get better pics when the sun comes back out and it can go outside to play. It's a matching numbers FN R1. EVERYTHING matches. The RA numbers on the bottom of the bolt, the carrier, and the lower match. It's really quite neat.

Serial number from FN is 12648. RA electropencil number is RA 3522.

Adam,
That is a sweet looking rifle right there, wood buttstock beats plastic any day of the week.

I'm not trying to pick on your rifle, but I thought all FN built R1's had vertical frame locks? Can anyone fill me in with the facts?
