No pressure to do so from me though bro
Duly noted. I should be over that way early next week. I'll give you a call this weekend and work out some details.

B17, if you need heavier mags then you can borrow my AaR10 mags loaded with 6.5 ammo. I don't know how much weight you're lacking but they're roughly 2.5 pounds. And will ride better probably. Or do what Trevor Saunders did at the legion match last year, he taped rolls of coins together.

I don’t recall having to do anything special to get to weight.

Carried an FAL, FNX-45, plate carrier with plates and battle belt.

I stepped off the start line at 62 pounds and finished at 56 pounds. I think.

Making the 25% by 2 pounds or so.

That's because you ALWAYS go Combat Class, even before Combat Class was a thing. Truly a beast -

Maybe.

Though it’s never been about the game.

With my personality, it was a way to take the gaming aspect out of it.

As Clint Eastwood has said, “a man’s got to know his limitations.”

The plate carrier is what's missing from my setup and that's a big chunk. Without completely redoing my setup (which I'm finally semi-comfortable with lol) I can't use one on account of the H-harness that holds up my belt.

For a good while, I ran an h-harness under my plate carrier.

No issues.

In fact, i have a Lo-Pro plate carrier that would go over your H-harness weighing at least 15 pounds you could use.

I appreciate it I try not to run with things on game day I haven't tried before though. This also goes for new guns

I have my belt ballasts cut out I'm going to try it this weekend. Might be a bust, I'm not sure. They feel awful heavy Maybe I'll just do the 5k in combat and wuss out for the 10

I carried 100 round shots of shotgun shells for the Legion match to make weight. Steel plates sound like a much smarter idea.

LOL where did you put all of that?? I don't know about you but I feel like as soon as I open the neatly packaged 25 rd shot shell box they suddenly grow in size like popped popcorn and there's no storing them neatly

I was thinking more that a plate carrier cut for a Texas-sized man might not fit a petite young North Carolina woman very well. Mel wore Rusty's plate carrier once and was miserable. At the Heartbreak match she had her own (with ceramic plates, if I remember correctly - 11lbs) that fit her very well and was fairly light and easy for her to move around in.

I love a woman with her own plate carrier.

I have no idea where you learn something like that!

Today's prizes come from Samson Manufacturing - who donated two of their new SXS-LW handguards. I bought one of these for my daughter's little M4-gery last year and it went from a 1.5 MOA rifle to a sub-MOA rifle, all while getting lighter and cooler-looking to boot!

Thanks Samson! https://www.samson-mfg.com/

Well crap. I was intending to run a myriad of rifles. Now I have the *possibility* of being semi intelligent and running just an AR10. Or I could just add the AR10 to the myriad of guns. Thoughts everybody?

I took 4 boxes, wrapped them in a bath towel, duct taped the package together, and stuffed it in the bottom of my pack. . Bath towel was sure genius if I do say so. Keep everything tight, no bouncing, and no sharp corners.

OK - I just sent an email to all competitors with the final details and reminders. If you did NOT get an email but think you are registered and paid, check your spam folder. If you still can't find it message me and we'll see what happened.

If you're registered for both the 5k and 10k you'll get two emails. And if you've put your email down for your kid's registration you'll get one for them too. Better too much communication than not enough!

RO's - don't get confused by the dates. You are running on Friday as we discussed no matter which course you're signed up for. It's just easier for me to email all competitors the same thing - sorry.

Yesterday out of the blue I had a 5th Special Forces Group Chaplain donate EIGHT certificates for a 4-day training course for Defensive Handgun, Shotgun, or Rifle from Front Sight Firearms Training for the prize table. These retail for $2,000 each, so that's SIXTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS worth of training that's up for grabs.

What a great surprise! https://www.frontsight.com/

I actually got some practice time today.

Rifle is fine, the 226 shoots a bit high for me now. That wasn't the case last time I shot it years ago, so it has to be my eyes.

Doing the math for combat class I need to find a way to add 26 pounds to my gear.

I am 175, so 25% is 44 pounds.
I just weighed my gear minus ammunition (as if I shot it all) 18 pounds.

20 rounds of 308 is almost exactly a pound, so I guess I can throw in a few more of those.

What are folks adding to make weight?

Bruce, I cut out steel plates to put into AR mag pouches. My plates are 1.3 pounds each and I can fit three per carrier. So with nine plates, including the weight of the pouch itís an extra 12.5 pounds for me.

If you need 26 Iím thinking the only way you can get that besides tons of ammo is going to be a plate carrier!

Those of you running combat class, how much are you anticipating to lose over the course? Iím hoping 6 pounds max. I think Iím going to do combat at least for the 5K. See how that goes before committing to it for the 10K... Matt how late can I change my mind LOLOL.

Iím intending to start out with 38 pounds of crap and come back with 32 or more.

My advice is to either add a plate carrier or a pack. 26 pounds is a lot to try to put on a belt or a chest rig.

Registration officially closes at 7:00pm on Thursday night, so you cannot make any changes after that. However - if you leave yourself as Combat Class but run with not enough weight, I SHOULD catch it when I see the weight measurements during scoring and bump you to Race Class. And in theory I SHOULD see anyone who registers for Race Class and runs with so much weight they qualify for Combat Class - and bump them up that way too. My spreadsheet has a flag for both of these.

Funny story - at the Legion match we had a VERY dainty lady (girlfriend of an SF guy) who was just out there "for fun" and carried a pretty minimalist rig. Jimmy almost broke her when he threw an 80lb Afghani on her shoulder, but she gutted it out and finished the course, smiling the entire way. When I looked at the weights during scoring, she got bumped to Combat Class. She was just so small that by percent she was carrying as much as the big dudes hauling full packs and armor. It was eye opening -

Just to make you guys feel much better about yourself and give you something to laugh about.

I could carry a Barrett M82, 5 mags of ball ammo (50 rounds), 2 liters of water in a camelback, G21 w/ 10 mags (@ 13 rounds), LBE, and protein/energy bars and STILL have to add weight to keep above the minimum.

So when I think of Beseventeen and her gear I see this:

Stimpy and Kotengu, but older and still keeping up with the young pups:

Then there is me, getting ready for the match:

That is hilarious! And about right as far as me and B17.

Stimp - you could also carry Jeff, but I think his legs would drag the ground.

I don't think I could, at least not very far.

I forgot I had a carrier with front and back plates, I will weigh it tonight.

Yep. Last year when I made the 2.5 hr drive in my topless old Jeep it was 17 degrees. This year the forecast is 22. F$&king $hit!

Rain? Seriously? We host two runnguns a year, and we never order up rain for y'all. Never. Y'all have no manners whatsoever.

Are the trails pretty much the same as last year? (lots of pavement) or is it mostly off-road stuff?

5k route is identical to last year. 10k has a little more rough rock/dirt/mud on it, with some blacktop thrown in.

Rain and mud seems to be what we do here. And bourbon. We do bourbon pretty well here too.

Rain and mud seems to be what we do here. And bourbon. We do bourbon pretty well here too.
Speaking of bourbon, I just picked up some RnG jet fuel courtesy of Mrs. Invictus.

I got more than enough mud a couple weeks ago. Got my fill of bourbon back in 1990. Y'all got any BBQ or boudain?

No boudain, and I'm guessing what we call BBQ you would not call BBQ.

Back to work stuff!

------------------------------------------------------------

Today Vortex Optics (http://www.vortexoptics.com/) delivered me FIVE Impact 850 rangefinders for the prize table. These can range a reflective target out to 850 yards, and correct for a true horizontal distance if you're ranging up or down at an angle.

This puts us at a mind-blowing grand total of over $25,000 in value up for grabs this weekend. There will be give-aways for everyone during registration, and four out of every ten people will take home a bigger prize.

I know we are all here to run and the match itself truly is the real prize. But I'm blown away by the generosity and support of not only the vendors but our fellow competitors as well!

You peddle that jet fuel to all the competitors you can! It will only make the rest of our scores go up.

Do be careful about how you share it though. Rockcastle went through great pains and expense to get a liquor license (the first?) in a dry county, and if we bring outside alcohol there we risk screwing that up for them. Keep it in your room and share discreetly and you'll be fine.

I figure it can be in the car and possibly shared on Friday night. One jar goes to Kotengu for being MD, one to me for taxi service. Last jar is split amongst FAL Filers as needed.

Amazing how much that has changed just over the last few days. I'm really curious to see what it REALLY does!
