Welcome to the files AKviper!

I love Valdez and go there at least once or twice a year to ride.

Valdez Heli Camp in the day and the pipeline club at night.

As far as Anchorage goes its nice that its only about 45 minutes from Alaska

Hell yeah, we're gaining more AK Files members all the time!

Blademan, did you get that DSA from gunrunners?

Wasup man! I got my DSA through Dan over at Northern Security a couple of years ago. I kept seein the dang things on his shelf and I just couldn't stand it anymore! I special ordered it though. It's killing me on whether or not to get another one on order because of the political climate #1, and #2, it takes so dang long to get them!

That's why ya build em, to spread out the cost:

Order one or two DSA receivers through your favorite FFL for $350 each.

Keep your eye on parts kits and configurations other people have that you didn't know existed but must have.

Build the gun up slow, then instead of $900-1200 in one bang, you spread it out over several months.

....Or. just focus on buying receivers before fall 08. My goal is to get receivers for everything on my semi wish list before then, then start focusing on long range bolt rifles.

Gawwd I miss Alaska!! Wish I was there to help you guys put a group together.

I still have my little cabin at deep creek.

I was working up there dredging the little harbor at ninilchik when some Mexicans drove over our dredge pipe with a dunebuggy, that made me think anchorage was pretty messed up, that was in 02. Fugg all the Kalifornicates and all the meth and Mexicans that come with them.

I still envy you guys though, especially the ones out fishin on the little Su tonight!!

Yo! Anchorage Here.

I'm relatively new to the the addiction but have been cruising the forum picking up nuggets of wisdom and bits of advice for a while now. I've had my DSA SA-58 for about a year now and though i get a lot of 'what is that?'s from other shooters, i have yet to see another FAL at the range. Any other falholics from Anchorage? It would be great to meet at the range and compare notes.

Um, yeah, introduce yourself with that. Since I live in Anchorage, for 16 years now, and used to live in Fairbanks (5 years) I get annoyed with people who think it's OK to insult it, or claim it's not part of the state. I'm glad you like where you live, no need to piss on my town. I like where I live too.

Anyway, I started 15 years ago with a Hesse gun. Contrary to popular belief it's been a good gun. I have 4 kits with receivers that I haven't assembled yet.

Anchorage isn't really the poop-hole most Alaskans believe it to be- it's only 45 minutes from Alaska, after all. 4 kits with receivers that haven't been assembled yet??? GET WITH IT MAN! I'd be embarrassed to admit that..

Fairbanks here. Arrived last summer, headed off to Afghanistan for a year. I think I will be up here for another summer or two. Can't wait for the temps to warm up so I can get out and shoot my FALs a little.

Nobody from AK posts since 2012? Bummer. Used to be some FAL heads that shot out at Birchwood in Chugiak. I am long since gone from South Central. FAL head here in Juneau now.

Anchorage here. Member since 07. Bought a non gear Imbel FAL from Neils in 05-06 iirc to get myself started.
I flipped a Valley guy from Arfs to the FAL. He's got a DSA Congo Para on order from DSA now lol.
I just need an Inch pattern upper to build a kit I picked up on a whim.

You might have to come down to Oregon or Washington to shoot with some FAL guys. We get about 40 or so at each shoot.

Seconded. You guys should make a trip down to the Washington or Oregon (por que no dos?) shoots. I'd like to get some connections up in AK for advice on fishing trips and such.

We are in South Eastern Washington state, but our daughter and grand daughter live in North Pole. We are actually considering retiring to the interior near the girls. We've been there many times and I've spent several Winters up there when I was in the military. To Hell with Arizona, if we move, it's North to Alaska!

I'm up in Healy usually once or twice a year. I usually fly into ANC as I have a close friend there I visit and fish with, but sometimes into Fairbanks in cold weather months.

Is Skinny Dicks Halfway Inn still open?
