Cruising the right of way last week we found Ramps growing like grass up by the NY line , we had to stop working and dig a few

yeah, its about time for the ham & leeks diners @ local fire depts & churches in the northern tier counties

leeks will put catshit breath on you for 3 days & you will sweat them out of your pores

as a kid we would go w/ my grandparents to a ham & dandelion diner at a local fire company and I'm thankful it was dandelion instead of leeks

Been cutting morels here in northern IN all week. Haven't gotten out far, but there's a patch here in the backyard that I've finally beaten the deer to,......AND I haven't mowed yet so I finally got to them before I got to them too!

You can smell them as soon as you leave the back door.

kev, did you seed them or is it a natural patch?

I'd like to try to seed them. I'd sacrifice a couple to see if it works. There are some vids on UToob that show how to do it.

Around central Oregon.is famous Morel country.

I remember a couple of Heavy years where 2 of us could fill a small pickup bed near full of #1's in an afternoon, the last ten years have been hit and miss, this year looks good but will not know till the end of may, I always get some then even out to the Oregon shoot I have founds some Excellent "Naturals", They are so damn good looking and smelling ya almost don't want to eat them, for a few minutes anyway.

Over the years my best patches are way out back and hard to get to, but worth any troubles to get Grand daddy's. I know a little Orchard, old and decrepit that with the right rains produces incredible deliciosa Morels, the largest I have ever found was 18" tall and 4" at the base in dia. The Orchard was from trees hauled in wagons on the oregon Trail, it is pretty cool that those Morel spores were in the rootball and went cross country on a wagon train.

Best of luck to all of you Morel Lovers.

A friend of mine gets all twitchy around mushroom time. He'll talk about mushrooms until you tell him to stop twice. I like mushrooms well enough but could walk past a sack of them without a second thought. I don't get it.

I never had chance to eat morels but they are said to have a excellent flavor

many years ago when I went to the beach 2`3 times per year (OCMD via Del thru the mushroom capitol of the world in PA) every chance I got, I stopped and bought a flat of white button mushrooms at one of the growers stands

we ate high on the hog putting 'shrooms into every meal

Morels are busting out all over in the fire torn Columbia Gorge... Many people being fined for trespassing on closed dangerous areas...

I remember watching a documentary several years back about some kind of mushroom in the Pacific Northwest that was valued very highly in Japan. The name of the mushroom escapes me, but people came to that area from hundreds of miles away and set up camps throughout the season.

Btw, where is the best place to learn about safe mushrooms in my area (southeastern part of West TN)
I like foraging, and love mushrooms, but have no desire to die in writhing pain!
