Fingerprints

I searched. I swear.

So I need to submit my fingerprints, on FBI Forms FD-258, with my Form 1. I found that I can order the forms on Amazon. Do I just fingerprint myself? I mean, buy an ink pad, watch a Youtube video or two, and have at it?

That's all there is to it? It cant be that simple, this is the government we're talking about.

I can't say for sure with regard to a Form 1, but with regard to my Texas LTC, I had to be finger printed by a member of a law enforcement agency. In my case, I had someone from the Sheriff's Office do it. That may be what you'll need for the Form 1.

You probably need to go to the local cop shop and get it done. I'm sure they ain't going to let you just send stuff in

https://www.atf.gov/explosives/qa/ho...erprints-taken

Quoting the Batf

Fingerprints must be submitted on Fingerprint Identification Cards, FD–258 that have been issued by ATF. The fingerprint cards must contain the following ORI information: WVATF0900; ATF–NATL EXPL LIC, MARTINSBURG WV. These fingerprint cards may be obtained by contacting the Federal Explosives Licensing Center at 877-283-3352 or the ATF Distribution Center at 703-870-7526 or 703-870-7528. The fingerprint cards must be completed by your local law enforcement authority.

I can only speak from my past experience from getting CCW in IN, FL and KY which are issued by the state police. For those, you had to be finger printed by your local LEO, police or sheriff, depending on where you lived. FL had some other odd caveat, but still very similar IIRC.

No personal experience with your NFA application, but I cannot imagine it being less stringent than a state CCW to the point of DIY fingerprints.

Regardless if it can be done yourself, I would go to your local dept and have it done. You want them rolled correctly and legibly so they don't kicked back and delay an already lengthy process.

Your Sheriff's office. Call ATF NFA Branch and ask them to send you a Form package. Could be wrong but the fingerprint forms they send you will be blue. Take them to the Sheriffs off ice and they will print you.

Our S.O. does them for $20. We now get them done for CCW electronically at courthouse. They didn't make me get fresh last renewal. Say nurses have no fingerprints from high use of gloves and hand sanitizer. Also paint and body guys that do a lot of wet sanding have little to no prints. Told they only fingerprint every other time for CCW in GA as change with time. Used to know a guy who many said was a thief but never stole from me and trusted him in my house unsupervised. He did spend about ten minutes every few days with wet/dry sandpaper sanding his finger tips.

Go to your local sheriffs office, they do them on the cheap, just make sure they know you're not a violator, you'll be treated much better.

Yeah, I always thought it was a good idea to go to the local LE and drop your fingerprints in the data base. I'm out. Except that TSA has mine already.

Wife told me that she can google names and find out your political party affiliation. This shit is public record as to your voter registration in closed primaries like from 5 years ago in FL

Thanks for all the replies.

I spent 9 hours in the pokie about 15 years ago (speeding) so my fingerprints are already a matter of public record. I'm also ex military so the DoD has them as well.

You can "Roll your own", I did on my last M203.

However it is significantly easier to just go to your PD, particularly if they have the electronic scanner.

In and out of my local PD in 25 minutes for my last 4 finger print cards, which included the time the cute clerk helping me was fighting with the printer.

Form 1 Finger print card

Doesn't matter if your former military or not. You still need to go to your local PD unless you live in the county I.E. Unincorporated area. You can go to either. Batfe requires the finger print form that is actually sent to the FBI to confirm your ID, Plus don't forget your pass port photo's.

As to Military, One agency DOESN'T TALK OR TELL ANOTHER AGENCY anything at all as it all goes to to the FBI for confirmation.

I was just responding to Meltblown's post.

But to ask again; Do I need to provide the fingerprint cards?

You may have difficulties convincing a CLEO to sign off on fingerprints they didn’t do and/or witness. Not worth the risk to roll your own IMHO, but YMMV.

Not positive but I believe you do need to provide them. IIRC, ATF will send them to you.

You need to supply the fingerprint cards.
You can either have ATF send you the cards, or you can go through the pain in the rear of trying to print them properly on the right paper.

When I did my F1's local LEO did the prints. For my F4's for suppressors, I used the kiosk in the local gun shop, no LEO involvement. The kiosk was cool, 1 stop shopping. Approved in about 6 mo.

I just do my own. ATF has never seemed to care. It's not rocket science, and if you screw it up, just do another. Cards and ink are cheap.

Silencer Shop also provides kiosk service for form 1 but it isn't free.

Call down to your local PD or SO and ask them what day they do prints. Some Agencies only do prints for things like this on certain days/times. I know our PMO (MP Station) only does prints for things like this and Security Clearances on WE-Thur 1100-1400.

Yes, you can roll your own. I have submitted prints I did myself and they turned out pretty good with a bit of practice.

The ATF Distribution Center will send you the cards for free.

My personal suggestion is to get a great set of prints, ink or livescan, scan them onto a flashdrive, get them formatted correctly in the Paint software program, and print those puppies out yourself. It was a pain in the ass but I finally figured it out and my scanned prints turned out fantastic.

Sorry to keep pestering yall, I have a couple more questions;

So I went to a franchised ID/fingerprinting place today. In and out in ten minutes. They filled in most of the blanks on the FD258 form but their info is not centered in the boxes. They "went over the lines" so to speak. I think I had read somewhere that this will get the form rejected. True?

I include a fingerprint card and picture with the Form 1 I send to the CLEO, correct?

What goes in the "ORI" box on the FD258?

Thanks for your patience!

As long as it's not completely FUBAR, you should be okay.

You can include a photo but it is not required. The area where you would put the photo should be grayed out on the CLEO copy. No fingerprints to CLEO, either.
