Why I changed my handle here...

For those who happened to notice, I changed my screen name on here. I was 'Capt D'. But that name rings hollow now, as on a cold day back in Jan 2016, the Colonel sat me down and proceeded to tell me that, outside of his control, the board elected to deny my promo to Major Complete gut punch, especially since that meant the end of my AF career, which spanned barely 11 years at that point -- I'd fully intended to run the gamut and retire at 20. What's worse, is the following year, the AF complained publicly they didn't have enough field grade officers across the ranks, then proceeded to promote 100% of candidates. Dude. You just forced one out the door that wanted to be there

So, I've worked a shitty dispatch job for the past year (I got nothing against dispatchers... I just don't 'do civilian' all that well) and have truly hated life. I'm back in Louisiana (again, nothing against this area, I just hate it) in a generally undesirable situation. All this, in addition to my wife leaving and taking my son, just after the AF booted my a$$. We may work it out, but she really needs to work on her f***ng timing

See, this past Jan I decided to apply to the Warrant Officer reappointment board, for the Army. Then, in Sep I got the notification that I'd gotten the appointment :woohoo: Still awaiting my security clearance (that's a long story, but it involves the AF screwing me again), but I'll be back in uniform soon enough. Some are aware that Warrants are generally addressed as 'Chief {name}'. Since I value this place (the FFiles) so highly, I thought it suitable to attach something that symbolizes something positive to me, hence my deciding to ask Gary to make the change. Thus, I'd just like to re-introduce myself

So you quit the AF because they wouldn't give you a promotion to Col?

Congratulations Chief! I think it’s a very good career move. With 11 years of military service, you’re downhills from there to military retirement. Thanks for your continued service.

Congrats on sliding over to a Real Service. Now, being a Warrant, you're required to grow a mustache completely out of regs and go NOWHERE without a cup of coffee (or SOMETHING) in your hand. You're not required to attend any formations or "mandatory" functions, and MUST be "somewhere else" 80% of the time.

HOWEVER, in order to deserve these things, you must make miracles happen in your respective field. I once was in a bind and for various reasons NEEDED a Humvee (looooong story!) and was in a pretty good pickle. Chief heard about the issue and somehow, a brand new Humvee (minus data plates) appeared. LOL

Well,

Having worked with many, many, many, Warrant and Chief Warrant Officers you wont be a Chief Warrant Officer until CW2. WO1 is considered a probationary position. I loved me some Warrants but damn they can be some catty bitches.

Have fun at WOC school at FT Rucker.

Congratulations on the Warrant. It all woks out in the end and your prior time will count as to pay. You will probably wind up retiring making the same as you would have staying AF.

Only down side is the Army bases golf courses are not as nice.

This from one that was raised on Air Force bases and retiring as a Army LtCol.

Congrats on the new position. Hope it is the catalyst you need to get back on top.

Warrants beat commissions any day of the week.

Here's to more FALs and L1A1s in your collection.

What is your discipline?

Have fun at WOC school! He he… should be an interesting environment for an ex-Air Force officer.

.i.e.... you will be treated like an Army private. Make sure you are in shape before you go. It isn't especially challenging mentally or physically, you mainly learn how to roll with the typical military BS punches. Being physically fit helps take the edge off and deal with lack of sleep.

Congrats. Had a CWO3 that ran our motor pool in Germany.

@ MOS and Grade -- I'm going in at the bottom as a WO1, in 151A Aviation Maintenance. Once established, putting in a pilot packet...

@ Pat -- Not sure if serious? Just in case, however, I did not 'quit', they forced me out under the 'two-time-pass-over-they-kick-you-the-f**k-out' rule

@ downhill >> retirement -- AMEN to that, that's the main reason I'm swindling myself back into the svc

@ Thorack -- I know the structure (prior enlisted Army, BCT @ Ft Benning, Rock of the Marne), but I don't want to change my handle again in a year lol Had a number of WO's in my maintenance unit during my four-year stint. Even as an officer, when at social events with my first wife (civilian nurse @ mil hosp), the enlisted nurse techs thought was enlisted because I wasn't 'catty' and hoittee-toittee. I'll be 'one of the good ones'

Thanks all around for the congrats. Starting back out at the bottom will be a unique perspective, and quite possibly a mind-**** after having commanded. But I look at it as a new beginning, a chance to get into even better shape, and keep serving (as I'd said, civilian life and me don't really get along). Funny how life works. Full-circle, they say. How true, considering this WO thing was my originally intended path nearly two decades ago, before I talked myself into walking into the La Tech AFROTC admissions office. Was angling to be a helo pilot way back then, now I'm right back where I started. Definitely older, perhaps wiser. Key lesson I guess is one never knows for what reasons things happen the way they do, but the good Lord blessed me with this opportunity, so I'm gonna go for it...

I didn't know what you were talking about at 1st so didn't realize you couldn't stay the same rank. I know some EM that are hanging out at Barksdale working as contractors and in the reserves working on 35 years. They only salute one weekend a month.

Nahhh, it's 'up or out' and they made that decision for me

The rules for ARTs (air reserve techs) are different than the active folks. Oh, and that previous fed hiring freeze came along right as I was being kicked out... gives the term 'double whammy' a twisted new meaning...

Sooooo... a quick update to this shenaniganary, for what it's worth, to anyone tuning in...

Security clearance came back g2g few weeks ago, so that box is checked.

Medical/physical done at Redstone Arsenal; drove up, made a weekend of it... it appears I need to be a little more advancing in my notice, as I missed a few of you guys... *ehem cough* Dale *cough*

Perhaps the best news received is that, due to my record and experience, I will completely bypass WOC school @ Rucker. I'd been preparing for the mind-fcuk of going from O-3 (having run a 500-member maintenance squadron), to what amounts to a 'new recruit' in another form of basic training. For once, I caught what I consider to be a bit of a break. I'm unsure where the 151A MOS WO Basic Course is held (hell, I may still be headed to Rucker anyway), but I'll be rolling out to wherever that is fairly soon, I hope...

Apparently, due to my being a cross-service appointee, the initial selection results listed me as a WO1. But there is a decent chance that they may bring me on as a CW2, considering the 10 years I spent in AF 21A in aviation maintenance and logistics. That'd be pretty solid, and I anticipate hearing something soon, maybe even this week. Looks like that masters degree and all that leadership time won't go to waste after all

Thanks for reading, wishing all dads a happy Fathers' Day, especially to those who, for whatever reason, cannot be with their children...

Embrace the FT Rucker suck.

Well, it is official -- I am now an Army WO1 and a proud (and excessively excited) member of the 377th Theater Sustainment Command, Joint Reserve Base New Orleans (for now). Didn't get CW2 because I'm a cross-service appointee, and have to got to the MOS basic course. Unsure if they'll direct promote me once done; I doubt it. Got sworn in past Monday, with my 4yo son standing right next to me (right hand up and everything lol), then got the unit acceptance letter yesterday.

Once the MOS qual has been met, I'll put in for the 'call to active duty' initiative, and hopefully be back in the saddle full time, before too long. After 18 months, it's finally moving along

More to come, to be sure... stay tuned

Great news, man! Keep it up.

Or if during periods of mass arrests people had simply not sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, ham- mers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand. . . . The Organs [police] would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers . . . and notwithstanding all of Stalin‘s thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt." - A. Much thanks all, hoping to visit the shop later this week, after my hitch at the dock is over. About keeping the machine running, well, it tends to sputter and fart when I initially get involved, but usually smooths out fairly quickly hahaha

Well, at a recent time, in an undisclosed location...

... sh!t just got real.

And, turns out I'll be headed to JB Langley-Eustis some time in October for WOBC. Anyone around them parts? I'll be there for about 19 weeks, and I don't mind taking a drive on the weekends...

... on another note, it appears my Igor eye-bulge is spot-on...
