Just de-neutered a postban Springfield SAR-4800 Bush

I stumbled upon this a couple weeks ago on Gunbroker with a reasonable "Buy Now." Finally picked her up this morning.

Paperwork is dated 1990. Post ban. Someone put a lot of time into reworked the original wood "butthole" stock.

She hasn't been fired much. Next step is to install a fresh stock and grip, and remove that ridiculous thread cover thing.

Missing a front swivel, but I did get a Harris Bi-Pod in it's place, decent trade off (I have swivels).

Overall, a pleasant score.

I have a chunk of flypaper wood that I think will fill the void nicely.

The bush rifle is my favorite SA FAL. Can't say I've ever seen that muzzle box before, wow.
Nice pick up, especially if you got it right.

Just de-neutered….

Took about 10 minutes on the bench grinder.

Wire wheel to remove paint and find pin location. Application of cold blue can help highlight the weld locations (I didn't have to use it, spots were obvious).

I hastily used the grinding wheel to remove welds and find actual pin location. I recommend taking your time if you haven't done this before.

Once I was able to see the pin, I clamped muzzle device in a vice. I have the action a little twist to right and left and the pin popped loose and lifted. From there the pin knocked out with a quick tap with a punch.

Nice shiny threads under!

One final F-you to our late President's POS gun policies. Nicely done.

Very nice and nothing is any better than breaking a slug like that off and find perfect threads under it.

I am too envious at the moment to post anything civilized. Give me a month or two and maybe I can work up something polite.

I like that very unique Valmet M76 looking buttstock. That thing is crying out to be converted to a para though ;-)

The 4800s are the best value in the FAL world...they are real Imbel made type IIIs. Only need some US furniture, some mags and a trigger or gas piston if you are worried about the 922r police.

I have some early DSA bipod cut handguards if you want, they fit superbly around the gas block, unlike some later US made handguards.

Over the years i have saved all of these horrible muzzle devices removed from weapons just to keep reminding me how much i hate them. Nice FAL by the way, really looks good.
