Need a source for a .116 drill bit.

All the suppliers I have found so far only seem to have 1.5 to 2 inch long shanks, which are too short to drill out the gasport. Anybody?

A standard # 32 bit from a numbered index has a ( measured ) 1.20" shank, and is +/- 2.800 " overall.

Gotta second McMaster Carr. I get all of my drill bits from them.
You can get an 7/64(.109), 6", extended-length, short-flute if you want or anything else

A jobber length drill bit is plenty long for drilling any style FAL/L1A1 gas port.

Do you have some funky chuck?

I use standard jobber length.

The Yard Store has good prices on cobalt bits. I buy a lot from McMaster, but never drill bits.

Home hobbyists, do yourself a favor and call a couple machine shops in your area, and ask who they buy their tooling from locally. You'll find that you'll get much higher quality tooling (i.e. drill bits, etc.) then the junk they sell at Lowe's, Home Depot, etc. And usually at a cheaper price.

Tag for individual drill bits, so I don't have to get 6-12 of each next time.
