Need Suggestions For Selecting From Several STG-58 Kits & New Receivers For A Build

Hello all,

Several years ago I purchased 3 Austrian STG-58 complete parts kits along with an Imbel (logo) receiver and a DSA receiver. The guy I purchased them from had got all of them back in the 1990's when these were first being imported (except for the DSA receiver, of course).

I want to put a single rifle together from these and want to pick the "best" combination of kit and receiver. As for what is "best", that is what I need help with. I would like to consider value, performance, and anything else you guys might suggest.

I understand that there may not be a "best" in some respects.

The 3 kits have serial numbers: 108xxx, 140xxx and 33xxx with the lower number kit being in the best condition (surprisingly), finish wise. In some respects it looks unused but does have some wear on the bolt and a few other places. The other 2 kits are roughly the same in terms of finish & wear, very good but used. The receivers are new.

Any suggestions or insights on what to select would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Build 2. The VCL barrel is cool. If your Upper is a Type 1 use the lowest SN.

Build on the lower number kit and let me take the other "unused" kits off your hands. Let's see the price for an STG Kit in the 90's would what, $199?? I can do $400 shipped for both. Just kidding...

Someone with the knowledge you seek will be along shortly to offer real advice.

Good luck with your build.

I too would pick the lowest number and get the custom receiver.

As long as they are all numbers matching though you couldn't go wrong with any of them if they all have a Steyr barrel.

Don't use a Coonan anything.....the goofy gap looks terrible....and so does the cut behind the LS......build the 140,000 on Imbel receiver.

You are looking for validation. Highest SN on the IMBEL and lowest on a DSA t1. Build both. Or use the best looking kit on the T1. Don't be a puss. Everyone needs 2 STG variants.

Next is 2 Argy, 2 IMBEL, a South African and a couple of Paras

....and in a very subtle and loving manner, start discussing with the wife where the next gun safe (or two) should best be located

Are all three kits matching serial numbers (bolt, bolt carrier, trigger housing/lower, and barrel)? Are you able to post pictures?

Yes, all 3 kits have matching numbers.

I says "You may not post attachments" so I assume I cannot post pictures.

Also, I don't know if this is related but I can't see pictures in other posts either, like the sticky about a DIY extractor tool. Any ideas?

Thanks!
