Any help on making wood grips for old bayonets ?

I have several imperial german bayonets that were damaged in a fire. The grips are either gone or in super deteriorated shape. I had a local to me guy going to do it , but he bailed after he got hurt on the job. I don't know a soul that could do decent work like making and fitting walnut grips to help me restore these bayonets.

Flypaper. If he can make the time to do the job, you won't be disappointed.

This whole "skill set" I am about to mention is probably outdated by two decades or more, but back in the 80s or 90s there was a local guy who made dentures.

In his off time, he also made custom grips for pistols.

He made some fine grips for custom pistols that were absolutely beautiful, and it took the same equipment he made dentures with to make them

YMMV

Thanks a lot!!!!!!

For the OP, this is some of Fly's work on the butt stock and hand guards I have in for final finish for a gentleman here.

The wood work he does is simply beautiful, and these are gorgeous pieces, even though my photo skills suck, as normal!

And yes Mark, Dean is FAR better than I am at cutting wood!!!!!

Damn !. That butt gives me some wood !. I sent flypaper a PM. If he is too busy I'd definitely take you up on the help. I lost all my wood chisels and like wood butcher tools in that fire...but at the same token that kind of uniform wood work is out of my league. Making the "rounded" grip groove cuts on those german bayos is something I'd have botched big time.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune.
Just FYI, the blades may need to be re tempered, and springs will almost certainly need to be replaced.

I'm not worried on blade temper issues.... it's not like I'm going to do a bayonet charge with a gew98 in this day and age. All the springs for the release buttons seem normal to slightly weakened but none were killed dead by the heat surprisingly.
