Polytech

Good deal. The receivers and op rods are forged . Looks like the previous owner upgraded to a USGI stock and flash hider. That's a bonus. If they also put in a GI bolt and trigger group ,it would be a steal. I was offered one for 800, that isn't near as nice. Congrats on your adoption.

Nice rifle the M14 is my favorite
Do NOT leave it alone by itself anywhere , the have a bad habit of multiplication

I turn the bipod around on mine to keep the wood from gouging

I agree with the bipod gouging the wood, however as it is set up now, is how the Marine Corps employed the M14 in the full-auto squad role in 'Nam, I don't believe the Marines ever had the pistol gripped M4A1 stock. Just a thought if you want to leave it as is.

I see that it has what appears to be a USGI stock, and a Flash hider with bayonet lug; what other mods does it have?

Some good close up pics of the receiver and bolt would be nice as well as that bipod. If your bipod is USGI, that would be very cool indeed.

Welcome to the M-14 Cult. You did good. The flash hider might be Korean, which is o-tay too. Get the bipod off and shoot it without it FIRST. Another advantage of the Polytech M-14 clones is the chrome-lined chamber and bore. Get as many mags as you can afford. Good, serviceable ones are hard to find without breaking the bank. Let us know how it shoots. Keep it clean. Learn to reload if you don't already, so save your brass for when you do.

Holy Mackerel.
Hang onto that puppy.
Many have put thousands of bucks into the M14 type rifles trying to get even close to 1" groups. You have a rare bird in had sir.
That wasn't single round 1" groups was it?

Reason I asked about the 1" group was because I shoot an M-25 regularly.
After 50 years + with the M14 and 8k invested in my best one, 1 " groups are hard to obtain. Here is a plot of one I shot a couple of years ago. Ain't easy even prone as I shoot. Large circle is 1".

And this is the rifle I shot it with. Sure wish I had one like yours. And with Tula too. Wow.

Shot these single shot groups for another competition with the M-25. Plotted there are 15 shots in .75 " Average is under .5. Not to shabby for a fat dude in his late 60's eh?

Chinese bolt, op rod and trigger group. USGI or Commercial flash hider.
Bipod is Chinese.

Original Chinese flash hiders were indistinguishable from USGI.

Top Chinese gen 1.
Center USGI.
Bottom Chinese gen 2.

Can remember a time when the Polytechs and Norincos were dirt cheap but I refused to buy any Chinese M14 clones. Had opportunity to stack them like I was doing with AK's and SKS's but figured only buy commie guns from commie country. Sure wish I had not been so 'Merican as would have had an @$$ load of decent trade/sale/shoot rifles. But have nuff 'Merican rifles reckon can just muddle on through.

Have a Super Match, National Match, Standard, pair of Basics and another Super on layaway now. Of all I own one of the Basics is the best shooting of them all and had multiple witnesses to the fact. When it was new and before began to need bifocals could easily shoot four five round groups under 1" with the iron sites from the bench. It amazed even a M14 guru smith who refused to work on it after he shot it but did tune up its brother puchased at same time just before the ban. He had no explanation why the one rifle shoots so much better than models that cost double it's value. All anyone can figure is it just went together right and got a really good barrel out of the pIle day it was assembled.

Congrats on the Polytech and just cause its chInese I wouldn't use that as an excuse to run Chinese steel ammo through it. Be kind to it and feed it brass. We have had a zillion threads about Chinese steel ammo here so just search the archives.

Polytech

I had an all USGI parts on Federal Ordnance receiver M14 SA, once. It shot 1 inch groups regularly with Portuguese ball. Being young and dumb in 1990, I sold it off, thinking the receiver was crap. I now have a Roland Beaver built. M25, with an Obermeyer 5R barrel. Was a pretty penny compared to the Fed Ord.
