Things I learned today....

When your wife calls and says "come out to the barn, there is a ground hog", do not make the assumption it is way out in the field and grab a rifle for such work.

Do not assume there will never be a need for BUIS on your groundhog/coyote AR. "Point & shoot" can really work within 20 feet, even when you have no sights. It is not however preferred.

When you shoot an AR inside a building without hearing protection, it will be very notable !!!

Once you have "saved" your wife from a ground hog, she will still laugh at you later and say you look like Bill Murray in Caddyshack if you do so with an AR while wearing nothing but camo shorts and flip-flops.

The ground hog learned today "don't let Blondzilla see you". If she is not armed at that moment herself, she will call for back-up

That is a pretty good sized Ghog there. Just hope you didn't give the horses any anxiety attacks. They could turn into snowflakes.

No doubt bro. It really "rang my bell".

The sad part is, there was a 22 revolver that would have been a much better tool for that particular job sitting within inches of the AR I took out there

At least Blondzilla did not take a picture of you in your groundhog outfit

And we thank her for not doing that

Sounds like an enjoyable experience and the woodchuck lost the battle.
I would not be one to laugh for sure.
In the late 80s I had a rabid raccoon in my garage and couldn't kill it with 2 15 rnd mags out of my 9mm P85. The thing was running and jumping and I just could not kill it. Ended up using a shovel to finish is off after I ran out of ammo. I hit it a bunch with the 9mm and had blood all over the place, the critter would just not surrender to firepower. 30 years later the wife still laughs at me when I talk about defensive weaponry, must include a shovel.

Hard to believe a regular shovel will take out a raccoon.
I'm sure you've upgraded by now...

Did you eat it?

Did it taste like chicken?

Considering their diet, they probably would not taste bad, but too "varmint" looking for me to eat. They are not crap eaters like possum or coons. I do have a vague memory of someone cooking one many, many years ago at a BBQ and claiming they were pretty tasty, but I don't recall if I tried it and forgot the taste if I did.
